I have been having problems with my tail light on my 01 400ex ever since I bought the machine. Sometimes it comes on most the time it dosent. I took the 400 to the shop they disconected the wire and put some water resistent grease on the connectors. and it worked. The very next time i went riding it was out again?
Ive tried doing the same thing, but i cant even get it to come back on. Its not the bulb either because sometimes when I go to fire it up it will come on. Ive followed the wire throughout the whole bike and have checked all connections, and still nothing!
It sucks because I do a lot of night riding with a lot of people. Nobody will follow behind me because I dont have no light. Is there something that Im missing??? Everything else works great
except that freakin tail light.

Mine works all the time. My friend has trouble with his sometimes, we just spray wd-40 on the connections and then clean where the bulb goes into the taillight lens and try to seal it up good without using a sealer (ie.......silicon). I will sell you mine if u want it. pm me if your interrested.

I went to the auto parts store and bought a new tail light, then mounted it on the back of the air box.... no problemo!

Mine just started on the last ride or so.:( I have not really had time to look into it yet, but I hope it's just a loose wire or something.

mine stopped working after 3 months. Any suggestions or substitutes? I do night riding, and like he said, nobody wants to ride behind me in the trails.

if in fact its a wiring problem it wouldn't be a short, it would be an open. if the wire shorted, it would blow bulbs or a fuse.

I've tried that and Ichecked all the connectors and still nothing. Havent had very much time to work on it. We went riding but between it raining and us riding I didnt have much time to mess with it.

heck yea I used a semi truck taillight and mounted it right to the airbox with some silicone and 2 screws ran the wireing through the airbox and out the side right by where the stock taillight hooks in, its brighter than stock and i dont have to worry about it gettin knocked off!
