every 400 rider knows that the stock shocks are good and all but there is those sometimes where you get want a little bit better ride. or when you jump something big and they bottom out. does anyone thing it is worth it to just get a set of 450r shocks or should i just go with some new aftermarket shocks? i know that the 450r shocks will be a lot cheaper.

Everyone here (http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=187613) loves the 450 shocks.

i think that the 450r shocks would be good, but also the aftermarket shox would be better. They would obviously perform better than the 450r ones. They are adjustable, not sure in the r's are. And its good to have aftermarket ones, just in case something breaks on them, you have a warrenty. If you do end up getting aftermarket, go for Fox and if not Elkas.

The 450r shocks are longer so it will raise your ride hieght, I would go with a TCS or Elka, you can find them on here very reasonalbe..
Your rear is rebuildable and it works awesome, have TCS or C&D Racing do that..

Unless you need/want all the adjustments you can get a set of Works G series for less than $450 and they make a marked improvement. I too thought the stockers were pretty good, until I got my G's.

Done the Elka thing, not again.

you can buy R shocks on here, and send them to GT Thunder and have them revalve the shocks

Many people here who have the 450R shock (myself and Garandman, just to name a few) think that for the money the 450R shock, when rebuilt by either Derisi or GT Thunder will dollar-for-dollar out perform the EQUALLY equipped after markets for the average trail rider.

How much dose it cost to buy an rebuild a pair of 450r shock??
I heard like 750 800 bucks but I guess it all depends on how much you buy the shock for.

I picked up a pair for $165 at trx450r.org then had GT rebuild them for $400

Total investment $565!

Good question. They will re-valve, re-spring and (this is the most important thing!!) they reduce the compressed length by about 7/8". You will need to provide info such as rider weight, tire size and brand, riding style and level, A-arm style and length, ETC... All of this allows the 450R to be a great alternative over after market shocks at a much lower cost.

Please don't get me wrong, are these the BEST shocks for the 400EX, maybe not, but they ARE THE BEST value in dollars. The comparable after market shock with ressies, rebound, and compression adjustments that are sprung and valved for you and your riding style would be well over $1000!
