Lets say you had a 400ex with no budget limit what mods would you have to do to the quad to make it keep up with any quad in the open class as long as a very good rider was on there out on the track

Forget a 440 kit!Too much off the sleve and dramatically lessons the reliabilty of the motor. My 03 400ex has a 426 bigbore stage two hot cam air filter and a lrd pipe and i run with the best of em.All you need is to know how to ride.

no i honestly think your wrong i personally like the 440's better had mine for over a year and half raced a season never one problem i kno people that had a 426 raced one season and it was blowing smoke so he had to switch to a 440 and now it runs awsome

Don't most of the 440 kits come with a larger dia. sleeve, I think that the sleeve walls are thinner on the 426's then the re-sleeved 440's. I built my 416 up and it will keep up with most and beat some of the 450's on the sand drags, alot of it is based on the rider, I've beaten guys with built 450's and lost to guys with stock 450's. most of it relies on how well the rider can utilize the power between his legs.

if you wanted the fastest quad out there, swap the motor w/ somting from a dirtbike

All i know is that some motors are built better than others.
