a few days back, i went out to start my z400 in the cold. the battery was dead though and i had to jump start it. this got me to wondering if there is any kick start kit or something of the sort for the z. this way, if the battery was dead, i wouldn't have to go through the trouble of jump starting it and could get it going quickly.

you might be able to swap out some parts from a drz400 dirtbike which shares the same motor. im sure it could be done without any major problems. finding a lever to work would probablly be a pain.

Where the kicker comes out on the drz is directly in the path of where the frame is. It wont work.

If it works it is still not worth it. My previous quad had a kickstart and in the cold you could be there for 10mins. kicking. In the summer 2 kicks and your off. You would be better off jumping it then just sitting there kicking the damn thing.

well, i also had an old kick start quad, but i never had any trouble with it. hot or cold it started in 2 kicks or less. thats what i was looking for if it camn be done, but it really doesn't bother me to kick one over either.

Doesn't exist. Can't be done because the Z cases are different. If it was the same the kicker would hit the frame.

well, if that cant be done then is there anything else i could do besides just push or jump starting it?

You could buy a good battery. The make battery tenders that keep a charge on the battery when stored for the winter. There not chargers. All they do is monitor the voltage and trickle charge the battery when it starts getting low.

those are really a good investment, he should look into those. We use them in vermont all the time.

I have thought of a kicker on the Z. would be nice to shed a handful of pounds, not like it couldn't use it... haa! won't work cuz it hits the frame... any way you could fab up a kicker to clear it? or does the shaft come out right in front of the frame?

(I never really took a look at it for this matter)

do you think you could use the kick lever from a different machine? like a 450R or 250X, Mojave, or something along those lines? that would clear and make it possible to use?

Buy a new battery and start your quad more often! Mine starts fine in 10 degree weather.
