ok i got my new toy the other day for my b day and i was driving it today and the passing gear didn't work...i am a real car guya dn know alot but im young and still learning so give me a break...anyone know why my passing gear doesn;t work...how it hooked up?

by the way this is a 84 chevy witha 350 turbo trans and 350 engine

check the cable/linkage make shure that is tight.

Check the detent(passing gear) cable to make sure it is connected to the carb.It attatched to the carb right under the throttle cable.If it has too much slack in it,it won't downshift the transmission when you press down on the accelerator.You can adjust it where it is snapped into the cable bracket.

There is a vacuum secondary on the carb to open the 4 barrel but that is totally seperate from the passing gear cable.

Don't get vacuum secondary (opening the other two barrels on a 4 barrell) confused with the kickdown cable(passing gear)

Like someone said ealier, there should be a cable hooked up for the throttle on one side of the carb and another cable that runs down to the trans. Make sure it's there and it is hooked up with proper tension.
