I am soon going to have my liscense and I really like Jeep Grand Cherokees, like a 99 or 2000 or so, but I was wondering, which engine would get the better gas mileage? the V6 or the V8? I heard rumor that the 8 would because it has more torque to pull the heavy body and the 6 has to work harder to do the same thing...any input would help alot...thanks

its an INLINE six, the same 4.0 in my cherokee, its not too bad, but in the grand cherokee I doubt it would be enough motor, the heck with gas mileage, its probobly not to big of difference any way, the v8 sounds better and goes alot faster, avoid full time 4 wheel drive, kills mileage, power and you can't do burnouts:D
if you find one with a six really cheap it would be alright, it is a heck of a motor for a six cylinder, but go with the 8 if you can:chinese:

We have a 2000 Grand Cherokee 4.7 liter V8, and a 1996 Cherokee Sport 4.0 liter inline 6. The V8 will tow more weight. I think the 4.0 comes out of the hole better. I think the gas milage is about the same. The Grand has all wheel drive, and the Sport has to manually be put in 4 wheel drive. The V8 pulls my Mastercraft ski boat alot easier, and stops better. The 6 pulls the boat OK, but does not like to stop. I have a realative that has a 2000 Grand Cherokee with the 6 cylinder, and it is a dog.
