DO NOT run Pennzoil in anything, especially your quad.

most car stuff contains friction modifiers that will make your cluth slip. You need to make sure it doesn't contain friction modifiers or moly.

it says inthe manuel it must be sj and this is and it cant have the energy conserving stamp i qoute (do not use any energy conserving oil for this may affest clutch lubrication) and this isnt since it coinheridts with those two qualifications is it ok

I have seen Pennzoil destroy air-cooled engines. It's parafin based (wax), the wax will seperate and build up inside the engine. Ultimately, either the engine will seize due to the oil passages being plugged, or one day the machine will be running great--shut it off, then the wax build-up will harden and the engine won't turn over.

I've seen it happen. Stay away from Pennzoil.

the supertech oil from walmart will work fine. as long as it is NOT stamped with the modifiers and doesnt have energy conserving properties.

I agree I wouldn't (and won't) run Penzoil in my weed eater.. lol.

AMSOIL, Klotz, Royal Purple, etc..

Basically if you can buy it at an auto parts store, you don't really want it. ;)

The old Mobil1 Red Cap used to be great.. but they added in moly's wich made it so we couldn't use it anymore.

Honda Lube is ... ummm "ok" for a stock quad.. but I would NEVER pay $9 a quart for it. It's junk compared to the others. Plain old dino, or semi-synthetic. They don't have a good full synthetic.

IMHO, the best readily availiable 20w50 synthetic availiable is at the Harley dealership. Grab their Screaming Eagle SYN3 20w50. One of the best synthetics out there.

And cheaper than Hondas Semi-Synthetic stuff... lol.

Can't comment on the Wal-Mart stuff.. but, probably good enough for what you need.

I prefer Amsoil synthetic 10w-40 in the spring and when it gets really hot I'll switch to 20w-50. My 2 pennies.

Oil or Synthetic?

THe Walmart stuff will probably cost you $6 per oil fill.

AMSOIL or HD SYN3 will cost you about $16 per fill.

Either way it's cheap maitenance.. lol.

Don't skimp on the MOST important maintenance item.

switch to shell rottela 15w-40. I used it in my 300ex all season long, just split the cases and everything was nice and clean, no sign of buildup any where!. Before that, I ran Havoline 10W-40. Again no problems at all. Just use what you want and make sure its not a sythtic, because you are running it in a 250ex and it will kill your clutch.

Steve,
Not all synthetics are harmful to wet clutches. You just have to make sure that it is "wet clutch safe." I have ran amsoil full synthetic in my quad for 2 years strait.....it is wet clutch safe and really works well for me.
