Which picture is correct?? (waterpump help)

does this part of the mechanical seal go this way:

1st pic is correct.


make sure its seated all the way, and put some vaseline on the porcelin part, that'll help break in the new seal.

Yeh, by the looks of it in the 2nd picture the washers would just fall out when trying to install.
