The newer 400's you can get a 13 but I don't know about the old ones, I think 14 is the lowest you can go on them, someone correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get a 13... I'm pretty sure I've heard of someone with a 12 for some reason... Isn't the shaft the same on the new EX? I'd think they would be...

I think that 2005-2007 Honda front shaft splines are different....so that you would have to order for the year of the quad...Look at Denniskirk.com or rocky mountain Atv.com......They have tons of this stuff....99-2004 is a 15x38 setup...2005 to 2007 is a 14x39 setup and yes..the splines are different between the model years...Hope that this helps.

Steve is right, The 2005 and UP forward sprocket splines are different than those on the 1999 to 2004 models. Be certain to order the correct one. www.rockymountainatv.com carries a lot of different sized sprockets for both spline shafts.

I've never seen a 13T on a 400ex before, but all I can say is wicked bottom end baby!

Hey..Honda #4...I'm Steve by the way..I've learned lots of valuable knowledge from you and Hornetgod13...To bad you are so far away..Hope all is well for you and yeah...13 tooth would make for one tight riding trail riding quad...Sometimes however for the average guy like myself...the stock quad gearing with exhuast mods and air cleaner mods is more than enough...Main thing...is just go and ride...:D

Sidewinder Sprockets offers all the way down to a 12 tooth.

As for your question, the stock gearing ratio is 2.53 (38/15=2.53) with stock tires.

Your 13/38 with the 22's will be 2.66 so you will have a little more bottom end and less top. That would be the equivalent ratio of stock tires and a 15/40 sprocket combo.
