just buy a jet kit, you'll get an assortment of jets. when the weather changes dramatically you'll have to rejet anyway, if you want optimum performance.

oh, and i forgot to mention the majority of the time you'll be better off cutting a hole in your lid instead of removing it completely. cut it to look like the HRC lid, thats what i did. as for the main just id try a 130 or so, im not realy sure. i have an 04 450r and ive got a 195 in mine, it might be a little big but its getting the job done. ive got hmf slip on, sparks racing jet kit, sparks racing high performance air filter and billit aluminum ring that slides into the intake side of carb, and HC stage 2.

You will be better off if you buy Keihin Jets. I have a Full Pipe, UNI and no Lid and I'm running...

185 main (will be running a 180 in summer)
50 pilot
CRF/HRC Needle (3rd Clip)
AF Screw at 2.5 turns.

You can buy the HRC/CRF Needle and all other Keihin jets from www.wppracing.com Great guys to deal with!

i dont like the jet kits there junk. you guys have 04 and 05 450r's so the jetting is different. i had an 04 450r and had the same jetting as you guys but on the 06's the carbs are different so the jetting is slightly different.

exhaust, no lid, 2006

165/170 main jet

42 pilot jet [stock]

crf needle [4th position]

#55 or lower # leak jet [#70 is stock]

a/f screw 2-1/2 turns out

you dont need a jet kit. just buy the 2 mains listed above and the crf 450 needle

bottom/inside of float bowl, these run opposite # wise than normal. #70 is stock, lower #'s are a larger jet. helps with bog issues.

call C&D and just get the HRC jet kit and an extra leak jet. HRC jet kit comes with the new needle and a 162 main jet. that is what i am running minus the new leak jet. however, i think i am going to give it a try.

Forget the jet kit's, there JUNK!
Get the HRC or tell the parts guy to order you a CRF450 needle jet, and leak jet.Mine likes a 170 main jet with the lid off. Mine didnt need a different leak jet. Ran better with stock pilot jet also. Either remove the lid or cut it out to match the HRC lid. I also sliped pantie hose over mine for a little extra protection.
Here's what it looks like now.

well i got my carb jetted last weekend and took it to an indoor race track and rode it for the first time since the build. sometimes when i would start the quad it would back fire really loud and then fire up. it also killed 3 times going into the same corner when i got on the back brakes and i did have the clutch pulled in. i turned my idle up some to see if it helped and it didnt. right now my jetting is at 170 main, hrc needle on 4th clip, 55 leak jet, 2 1/2 turns out on air/fuel screw

The 06 has a fuel screw. It's on the engine side of the carb. There might be a little black plug in the hole. Once you find it change it out with an adjustable fule screw like one from MSR. It makes it a breeze to just reach down and make some last minute adjustments. The backfiring sounds like you need to richen the pilot circuit by turning out the furel screw or going up one size on the pilot. Mine runs near perfect with what you"ve got. A 170 main 3rd clip on the needle and I have tried a 45 and 48 pilot with both being to rich so went back to stock. Have you made sure there are no exhaust leaks which could be causing the backfire? Good luck!

yeah i made sure there were no exhaust leaks, i went riding today and when i went into a corner and got on the brakes really hard it would kill 95% of the time. i dont know whats goin on with it, its runnin really good otherwise. anybody have any suggestions?

well yesterday i put in a 45 pilot and moved the clip to the 3rd position on the needle hoping this would help. it starts good, but then when i punch the gas really hard it cuts out and will kill most of the time, that is just when it is idleing. i havent had the chance to ride it yet and see if it has cured the stalling in the corners but im guessing its still going to do it. a few people told me that i should take the leak jet out cuz that might be causing the problem. anybody have any suggestions on what to do or what the problem might be?
