Does anyone agree with me that they should start to put a backup kickstart option on the 400ex?? They are such a ***** to start in the winter!!!

I looked into it a while back. you need basicly an xr400 motor.

what are you running for a pilot jet?

As of right now I am trying to figure out the best jetting for my bike so I will take any suggestions you have on pilot size. Its just so hard because in the winter months my bike is so hard to start but then it runs great, then when summer comes around it starts right up, but doesnt run like it does in the winter, I almost have to rejet my bike when the seasons and temperatures change. I am in the trial and error period of jetting right now so I will take any suggestions!! Thanks.

i think the reason you bike works better in the winter is because the more cold air in the motor the more horsepower you have.

if you jet it right it will start right up without the choke even

put in a 42 pilot and turn you idle screw up and you won't have that problem.

Thanx a lot man, I will try that and let you know how it works out, ever since I put the stage 2 hotcam in my bike, I am having a lot of problems getting it jetted and setting the air screw so that it runs top notch!! Im sure with all your suggestions and advice I will get it figured out soon enough. Thanks!!

That's because you should be rejetting your quad whenever there is a change in temperature or altitude. I believe it's for every 20 degree change in temperature you need to adjust your jetting on a 4-stroke. Obviously a 2-stroke is more tempermental and you need to change jetting more often with changes in temperature and altitude.

Kick start is harder in the winter. When it's cold im kicking for 10 mins. When its 70 out side 2 kicks.

Like said above...unless you race there is no real advantage to having kick other than no battery to worry about. I know if I didnt race I would have electric start....
