ORV?S LEGAL ON MOST MICHIGAN ROADWAYS, MAYBE?????????..

By *wanger* Ranney, Facilitator, Michigan Motorized Recreation Council

On February 22nd, 2007 House Chair of Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Department of Natural Resources Joel Sheltrown (D) District 103 will introduce a Bill that will make it possible. On the same date, Senator Mike Prussi (D) District 38 will introduce the same in the Senate. Plans are for the Bill to have a number on February 27th.

Without doubt, some of the most exciting news in the history or ORV activity in Michigan! We have read the ?blueback?, the last step of a Bill before introduction. WE SEE NOTHING IN THE BILL WE CANNOT LIVE WITH! We will hold our detailed comments until we see what is presented on the 22nd.

The intent of the Bill is to erase any shadow of doubt, it is legal for a county, township or municipality, the option to permit ORV use on their roadways. It has long been the position of those in leadership of the ORV community and supported by many others, we need this legislation for the purpose of convenience, increased recreational opportunity and as an economic generator for Michigan?s economy.

The Bill in its present form limits the option to those North of Townline 12, ( primarily a line East/West of Bay City and the southern boundary?s of those counties).

For this Bill to pass, YOU must be involved and it is very easy. You need to write three short letters of support. Simply punch in Michigan House of Representatives, send your Representative a letter, then look under Committee?s in the House, you want Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Department of Natural Resources. Choose one or all, send an e-mail of support.

Punch in Michigan Senate, find your Senator, send a short note of support. To all, simply state you support Representative Sheltrown?s and Senator Prussi?s ORV Bill.

It is up to YOU! There are 346,000 ORV users in Michigan, we need a 10% or more response to Lansing for the most favorable ORV legislation in Michigan?s history. For further information, check out your favorite ORV user groups web site.

PLEASE DO THIS! if we get enough support we could get these things street legal!
