what is the most likely cause of this problem. pulled of the clutch cover and the clutch looks good but the oil looks like really thick aluminum paint

do you mean it looks milky? maybe water or coolant is getting into your bottom end.

How long sence its been rebuilt ???. Any chance some anti seize lube used anywhere in the clutch or transmission areas, that has a silver look to it.
It could be something from the clutch has broken off & got chewed all up & mixxed with the oil.
Inside the transmission, part of a shifting fork could have broken off & the gears chewed it up making the oil look like that.
For it to look like thick aluminum paint like you say, it would need to be a good size piece of aluminum chewed up.

Got to be something broken off that was aluminum, I would pull the clutch cover & inspect everything in there.

Hey,, I just thought of something, the bolt on the end of the crankshaft that holds those two gears on, seen those get loose & back out & rub the clutch cover grinding off a bunch of aluminum.
Yeah, you need to pull that clutch cover off.

If your clutch plates are aluminum it could make your oil look like that.

I seen a clutch one time had a fiber plate broken all up, pieces missing but was still in place & the clutch was working fine, now that oil had aluminum in it, but didnt look like paint.
