My 98 Custom is a great gun but I need something that fires faster. I was looking into a Smartparts Ion and they use nitrogen tanks. Can someone explain the different types of tanks and the relation between the physical size of the tank and and the amount of pressure they can hold? And how many shots you get from diffenent sized tanks? Also is there any other guns just as good as the ion but not as expensive?

Edit: I forgot to mention whats the difference in a high and low pressure tank? Can both be used on a gun that requires n2?

With a 45ci 4500psi tank you'll get around 700 shots. A 68ci 4500psi will get you around 900-1000. A 50ci 3000psi will get around 500-600 shots. And lastly a 70ci 4500psi tank will get you around 1200 shots.

c02= liquid , if you use it in a gun that requires n2, you will freez up the solinoid.

n2= gas, you need this for any high end gun ( ions are the base minimum )

the smallest tank size holds 200 shocks

i think thats the 45/45

when the largest if i remember correctly is the 65/65 holds 500 shocks

and you can guess the in betweens

ions are great if you have 1k to drop into them

like : virtue board, barrel, reg, drop, on and off, bolt, bob mod is also a must, feed neck, and for looks of corse a body.

www.ionowners.com can help you out

I was thinking of playing again but it's just so expensive, charging 10 bucks a fill, 60+ for 1000 balls that last about 20 minutes. I just can't afford it.

The physical shape of the tank is similar to a CO2 tank, but IMO it's way easier to handle. Depending on whether you run a drop forward or just an on/off you can cradle the tank and tuck it in close to your body, making it easier and more comfortable to play.

Compressed air also is more consistant when it comes to chrono-ing your gun. The properties of CO2 make it kinda unstable and unpredictable when released, but compressed air always gives you accurate numbers when chronographed.

If you're looking into a getting an ion, make sure you have about 500$+ to spend because you will get bored of it quickly. My suggestion would be to save up and look on forums for used DM5, DM6's. I'm in the gun market again since I stopped playing 3 years ago, and I'm looking into the PM6.

If you play front/mid, grab a small sized (cubic inch) tank like a 45/4500, 68,4500. But if you play back a little more you might want a larger tank due to the more paint you'll use.

Ions are decent guns...my GF has one and as far as feel I like it better than my PM6, but when it comes down to it, it cant hold a candle stick to mine. As far as tanks goes the more pressure the more shots, a bigger size more shots. So in theory you could have a smaller tank...say a 45 at 5000psi that could hold as much air as a 68 at 3000psi, but keep in mind how powerful your local fields air compressor system is...our local field here can only manage 4500 on a good day. Most scuba tank fill systems with only squeeze out 4000-3000psi.

You would be jealous, i work in a lab we got Nitrogen tanks outside for specific test we have to run you could easily fill your tanks up with em'. To bad i don't have a paintball gun or i would have access to free air all day.

Well i think that's what yall use in the tanks, we have nitrogen, co2, etc.

If you are looking in the same range as the ion, check out the Spyder VS2/VS3. They are great guns. Everyone else about covered the nitro questions.

Go with a used shocker or impulse, both run on CO2 or Nitro/compr. air and are great guns for the money. Theres alot good older guns out there that can still keep up. I think...haha Ive been out of paintball for soooo long, damn expensive sport.:grr:

well, I was first goin to sell my 98 Custom and buy the custom pro with an e-trigger. I just like the 98 custom so if i wanted i can buy a longer barrel with more accuracy or throw the stock one back on and go all out walking everyone. Plus i know it inside and out. Maybe 300 dollars, if i would sell the 98.

It also depends what you are going to use it for...if your just playing back yard paintball then go with a spyder or tippman...if you are playing rec ball then maybe something a little higher up such as a electronic gun...if your into speedball then look into any of the PM's or DM's, ions, timmys, or if you have too..a shocker.

Longer barrel doesnt really mean more accurate. Some barrels are actually too long, and make the gun shoot worse. Better accuracy comes from a good paint/barrel match. That is why a lot of people buy the barrel kits.

Thanks for the info but I already know that the longer the barrel doesnt mean it is better.
