Best upgrades for $1500

If you were to start with a stock 400EX and only had 1500 to 1700 to spend on upgrades for trail riding what would you get?
Suspension?
Exhaust?
416?
I am just need the best trail mods I wont be doing MX.

I would put a good set of suspension under the bike..........front and back....makes a night and days difference in the handling performance of a 400ex. ;)

You can rebuild your rear shock cost varies

Better suspension will make you faster and it won't wear you out as quickly.

Then work on the comfort (handlebars/controls/etc) and then a slip on exhaust.

You can probably do all that for $1500 or less.

get 450r fronts and revalve the fronts/rear, get belly skids and swingarm skid, and a set of fasst flexx bars and a steering stabilizer, pref. scotts, elka, w.e.r. or precision, but a stick will work fine if u get the flexx bars

i would skip performance and get the comfort stuff first, you can always add power later on

Get Suspension first then work on getting a pipe and cam and then some comfort stuff.

Deff. For suspension.
They are good stock shocks but arn't up to par more like tripple bogie :D I would try and get some used shocks like elkas or pep. But if you want to go the cheap route get the 450r's and also throw a pipe on it best mod bar none. There is plenty of options so do what you feel is best. Also don't try and buy good looks for your quad they just arn't a wise investment. (i.e. Plastics and things of that nature. Ur just gonna scratch the *ell outta em then there not gonna look perfect n e more. Just take care of it and it will look great all the time. Just remember wd-40 does Miracles for plastic when you go through mud or when you just want it to look good.

Personally, If it isnt going to be raced, I would go for a
Yoshi/HMF full system,
edelbrock carb,
kandn airfilter,
new sprocket/chain kit,
a new clamp/bars kit,

and if I had money left over, maybe a hydralic clutch and some braided stell brake lines.

suspension.. cause you can only go as fast as your shocks let you.. the better your shocks the faster you get through the trails..

after you can get a stage 1 cam and exhaust.. air filter..

suspension, i wish i got shocks before all my other mods cause ive just started upgrading the shocks
