are they as great as everyone says on the 400ex? and can i just bolt them up after i grind the eye?

See below.

I know that once GT Thunder gets done with them, they rock.

I have them installed. Still fine tuning the compression and rebound settings. They seem to be better than stock. It's definitely the cheapest way to improve your front suspension.

:D love them ...BUT do not grind the shock eye just knock off the fender bracket nut and get a couple of "button" screws/bolts and put a nut on top of the bracket it saves cutting on your new shocks and looks better in my oppinion;)

yeah do what hotrodhonda400 said its alot cleaner looking and yes the shocks are an awsome upgrade for the price i luv them...even the 450r carb 2 of the best upgrades that ive put on...

If you don't have any pan head screws, just knock off the nut and grind the top dpwn a little bit ( like lass than 1/16th of an inch), then put the nut where the bolt was, and visa-versa. Works good and looks clean, unless you butcher it on the grinder.

The 450r front shocks have a lot of potential if set up right. Send them off to GT Thunder and have them re-valved for your weight and riding style, and if you want them to be great have the triple rate spring conversion done as well.

I hated it. Made the bike handle like sh*t. And if you buy them for 200 then have GT Thunder rebuild them, you should just buy aftermarket.
I would never suggest it to anyone.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Why are you so angry?
This is probably the most cost effective budget minded suspension upgrade for the begining racer out there.
Just because you don't know how to tune your suspension without spending a ton of money doesn't mean others can't.

You couldn't be more wronger.

Mine handle great.

Also, please show me any aftermarket shox out there with rebound, compression, remote reservoirs, and dual rated springs for $600.

I've owned the Works AT steelers, and they bite as compared to these.

He's angry because he spent a ton of money on Elkas.

He has a right to his opinion. He obviously had more money to spend afterwards. However, if you are limited on money, the 450R shocks are the cheapest way to upgrade the 400EX's lousy stock suspension.

Uh oh Garandman, we have been here before, just seemed like yesterday..

I agree whole heartily with hornetgod13, if you are limited on money, the 450R shocks are the cheapest way to upgrade the 400EX's lousy stock suspension.

I like them so much I have 2 complete sets of 450R fronts, one for standard arms and one for +1 arms, when I get them!

Yes, get 'em and use $$ for other items. Do not pay over 250 and DO NOT grind the shock eye. You will like them a lot compared to stock.

Go with what Hornetgod13 says...compared my stock 2007 front suspension to his with the 450r..setup and I can tell you..that his had a much better damping quality...Mine were like pogo sticks..so I set my spring rate to the softest...still does not compare to the 450r setup...much better damping...no pogo feel..

I enjoy helping people out. I'd like to see a few pictures of your quad. I'm interested in seeing how it looks.

Read through this thread. http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=187613 There is a lot of good info on the set up and what you need to do to make the shocks fit.

I'm still fine tuning mine. I wasn't sure if they were actually all that much better until I compared my front suspension to that on a 2007 400EX. The shocks are a HUGE improvement.

I had been searching for a while before I bought my 450R shocks. I searched Ebay and the "Parts For Sale / Honda" forum. They are currently selling for $225 to $250 on Ebay. You can find them a bit cheaper on this website ($200 to $230). I was lucky and found a set pulled off a brand new 2007 450R for $220 shipped. Be certain to buy a newer set if at all possible.

Thanks for the compliment!

There is another source for 450R shocks, trx450r.org

Dedicated to the 450R. A lot of people sell them to get after markets. As an example I bought a set of '05 450R shocks there for $165 shipped!!!

Good luck.

Oh and post pics of your quad, I'd like to see it.

I did not get my 450R revalved or resprung. The quad sits an inch or two higher in the front. I trail ride most of the time and they are fantastic the way that they are. That's my personal preference and you may feel differently once you get yours.

If you have an extra $740 then send them to GT Thunder.....that's the quote I got to get all three reworked.

I don't have that kind of money laying around. I'll continue ride my 450R shocks the way they are now.
