well i rode a yfz and loved it basically. I loved the handling, ride height, and most of all the POWER!!! I was thinking prolly a 04 or 05 used, so is there any problems i should know about on these years or what, i don't care if they are minor. Also what is the price range for a used one in good condition.

No major problems to speak of.I still love my '04.The quad has been very reliable and a blast to ride. Hands down the best quad I have riden. The '04 had some charging problems but by now the problem would have shown itself to the current owner so I wouldn't worry to much abot it. Overall I have to say Yamaha did their homework and produced a great quad from the beginning.

thats good to hear i was a little affraid of the 04's in case they had some major problems since it was their first year but now my fears have gone away. how would you fix the charging problems? new battery? or the stator thing

dont forget the 04-05's yfz are 439cc's the 06's and up are 450cc's

That is correct but for about $400 you can do the WR conversion and make your '04 a true 450cc.The charging system on the '04 didn't start charging until about 5500 RPM and was draining the battery. If you removed the lights then there was even more troubles.Yamaha recognized this and sold a rectifier (I think thats what it is called) and it fools the charging system into charging all the time.I also did the oil mod when I did the WR kit. It squirts oil onto the rod/wristpin area for better lubrication. The oil mod wasn't hard, but you can send it off for around $50. The only thing I disliked about the '04 was the chain adjustment and the air filter. But after market companys took care of that.

I have seen good shape '04 and '05 for around $3500 to $4000 stock.

I would try to find a good deal on an 06' simply because the chain adjustment is much more simple. They're true 450s also!!

i have seen several broken cranks and a few dropped valves in the 04.

Get the decompression plug for the 04. The only thing wrong with the 04/05 IMO is the seats(too hard) and the throttle(to stiff)
