That would not be a good idea too grind them off. I have seen them added on (extending the fins) for better cooling. the better you can cool a air cooled engine the longer it will last.;)

I've seen it done, makes it look good, I can't find any pics though... If done I'd definately get the bigger oil rez and cooler and air scoops to be on the safe side.

The cooling fins are there for a reason, I wouldn't do it.

do air scoops make a big difference in engine temp? are they necessary with a stock motor that is only piped?

unless your tryin to do a liquid cooled conversion, just leave them alone. cool points should never come b4 function

"Finning" the cylinder is old school, and shouldnt hurt anything if done properly

If this interest you, there is more to the process for those wanting to have it done and can afford it

Dang, kinda pricey:eek:

What do they cut to make it work as stated?

if you do some reading on the process, the founder of the process kind of pulled a fast one at the patent office by stating it was a process that added cooling to air cooled engines, grabbed a patent, then shut down folks that had been doing it for 20 years. interesting stuff...lol

I skipped the History section:p

That's what I figured it was but thought they had something more 'special' besides the price.

yeah, its pricey

most folks just use a belt sander and square the fins after the cylinder is painted...lmao

use a dremel, small cut off wheel, just nick the fins at 1/4 " intervals.it will give the same effect, especially if your motor is black.first 1 i did was on a yamaha mini enduro 60, about 30 yrs ago!
