shock adjustment

im going to be lowering my 400ex soon and i want to stiffen my back shock so that when i am on it, i will not make the rear of the bike sag.do i just have to tighten that adjustment on my shock

There are three adjustment to that shock, compression, rebound, preload. From what you have said you need to put more preload on the spring, turn the treaded preload collar down.
