Well yesterday i went to put it back in the garage for the night and i took off and it acted like the clutch was slipping bad. So i looked down at my sprocket and the shaft is spinning in the sprocket. So I was hoping I striped the sprocket out or something and didn't break anything. I took it apart today to find this..

*** you can see from the pic it riped the keys off the shaft

All i ever do it fix this POS! I guess im going to have to just weld the sprocket onto the shaft

when its all fixed its going up for sale

its kinda funny, cuz the 250x and 300ex are basically the same thing(except for bore), and everyone i know that owns a 300ex or 250x never has any problems with it...i guess you just got a bad one

id just weld it on and sell it to some local kid. i remember you paid like 1700 for it and atv's go for more down there so you might be able to get that for it. but i have no idea what they go for down there. if you sell it, what are you planing on buying?

yea ill put it in the coastal trading post for like $1900 and see what offers come up. Im going to be buying either a 87-95 F150 4x4 or a 87-93 Mustang. Maybe later on when i have job i will buy a Z400.

Take it to a welding shop and have them make new splines.

I am guessing if you have a welding machine you could do the same thing. Just need an angle grinder and be able to weld in a fairly straight line. It would take some time to get the height correct and not overheat the part but make some sort of measuring tool for the height and you should be good.

cant weld. Theres a seal right there. Same thing happened to me in a race. The bolt on the sprocket broke and then the other one broke.

The right thing to do is to do what I did. Split the cases and put a new countershaft. Its a $70 part and get a gasket kit for $38 on ebay, and rings for your piston, or if you are good, you can keep the piston in the jug when you take it off.

i would rather not split the cases :ermm:

You can probably take the seal out from the outside and then weld on new splines. If you can't take the seal out you will need to split the cases.

the seal can be taken off, but explain to me how to weld on the splines??? Impossible. I had a proffesional welder look at it and he said it was not worth doing.

Oh and spliting the cases isnt that hard, as long as you take pictures and use LOTS of bags to put parts and stuff in. Once you split the case, all the gears stay in, all you have to do is slide that countershaft out and slide the new one in, nothing gets out of order if you do it correctly, then bolt the cases back together.

split the case

Can I get in on this action? I'm sick of mine too. It has stranded me so many times.

it is actually the stroke that is different. anyway that sucks. my bros 250x sucks balls too. it has screwed up so many times but it was just because of poor maintnence (sp?)

im guessing everything is breaking on it just because its old and things go bad :ermm:

Man that really sucks, sorry. I suggest you take it to the welded as said above, maybe they can half-assed fix it or something. Something just to hold it for a little while.

if i was buying it id pay more if all it needed was the shaft

cutting off that sprocket to fix it right will suck

Fix it right, dont try and rig it that's why stuff breaks. :p

The time you spend fixing it right the first time will be less then the time you spend rigging it then fixing it when it does it again..

Ether don't fix it and see if someone wants to buy it and fix it them selves or fix it right. Cuz if I was wanting a quad I would rather buy it broke then rigged up.

One of the reasons i got rid of my 250X and was building a 300ex was because the 250x kept breaking on me. the main problem is that no matter what we would do the timing chain would always jump a tooth while riding. Everything was new in there. Oh well sorry about your luck. and now that i think about it i believe i have a 250X bottom end lying around. If i do and the shaft is good ill give it to you if you pay for the shipping.

FYI: Welding on the sprocket will melt the seal too.

You're just going to create yourself more problems by trying to bandaid fix it.

watch the electrical equipment, i've fried my stator before from having it in the frame while i was welding it.

Well i dont know what im going to do. I really dont trust myself with spliting the cases and dont have the money to spend on the POS to fix it.

i cant weld it on..so i couldnt just keep it for myself.

The only thing left is to part it out i guess.

or hope someone will buy it broke. :ermm:

up need opinions

thinking about selling it without the motor and sell motor cheap on ebay. or part out the motor

With the number of aftermarket parts you have.. if they are in resonable shape, and the frame is straight.. you'll always make more money parting out a 300ex/250x than you would selling it as a single unit.

Would be the best route IMHO.

i was thinking about taking the aftermarket parts off and selling it as a roller stock
