My clutch cable rubber gets hot and melts and sticks to the cable if I run wide open for a long period(minute) and gets the header pipe hot on Sparks X-6 pipe, going to put a new cable on, looking for suggestions on a heat shield around the rubber where the cable runs between the header, anybody?

I had that problem for a little while, I put some of that heat tape around mine, and the best thing to help me was there is a factory piece there that holds the cable just below where it goes between the head pipes, bend that to keep it in the middle the best you can,

I discovered most high performance auto race shops sell a heat shield for cables, slip it over the cable in the problem area, problem fixed.

Heat tape would be the easiest fix, or them cable covers he is talking about.

or you could go to motion pro or somewhere and order a longer cable and route it around the header instead of between it

Since you have to buy a new cable anyways, just get a 300ex/250x cable. It's longer so you can reroute it along the frame;)

This is what i did on mine.250x oem cable and rerouted well below header along frame rail and up to the bars, taking this path not only clears any headpipe heat problems that could arise but creates a much smoother path for the cable.Which in turn makes the clutch lever way smoother to operate!
