Just bought a 2001 400ex with a 440 kit. Guy took motor apart because he was getting motor oil coming through the carburetor and into the air filter/box. Not cup fulls , but enough for there to be a problem. My only guess is he overfilled the oil reservoir. Could there be any other cause. Just wanted to ask before I assemble the top end .
Thanks

it's possible that could be. Maybe it has bad piston rings?

Check the oil level and if it's okay, sounds like blow-by.

the oil has been drained and the motors top end is apart. What would cause blow by?

improper ring gaps and/or ring seal most likely just too mmuch oil

the oil over flow goes into the engine so it could be that ur oil was too full.
