stock jeep stereo

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee, the stereo sucks, stock cd player, walmart speakers up front, stock rears, all are 5 1/4" when I turn it all the way up, still not loud, it distorts pretty bad. Is this the cd player or the speakers or both, I really don't want to buy a head unit, and deffinatly not a sub but I would invest in speakers or an amp if you guys think it would help

i blew my speakers not long after i got my jeep now i got sony xplod speakers and a jenson cd player

Why not buy a new head unit? You already said you're sucks.

You can buy a nice head unit for 100-150, then another 150-200 on some new 5-1/4 and it should sound pretty good. I've always liked Boston Acoustic speakers, they sound very good for the price.

at this point I can only afford a head unit OR speakers, I'll look around for a good deal on a used head unit though, someone around school might have one

found a kid that has and older 45x4 pioneer deck for $25 should I buy it
