Don't forget to adjust the valves.

less maintaince then a quad... alot less parts and its easier to work on! theres no more maintance in the motor compared to a quad... u have to do the same to both...

I had an 04' YZ250F. when I sold it 2 months ago it had the original top end. as long as you maintain them properly the Yamaha's are great. that bike had great power, the suspension was pretty good too. the only thing I really didn't like was the high center of gravity.

So the YZ the better bike? no ones owned a KX?? COME ON GUYS! i wanna get a side of the KX too.

So EX KID.. You liked the YZ but didnt like the center of gravity? what do you have now?

the 04 to 05 kx250f is junk... its got horrible suspension and an unrealiable motor... its the same bike as the 04 to 06 rmz250 with a differnt color plastic... the 06 and 07 is a great bike...

i have a 05 crf250 for sale for 3,200 in mint condition

mikeB

So what do you think the best KX RMZ years are?

oviously KX 04-05=****. RMZ 04-06=****

So whats the best year. not really lookin fora new bike, but will settle for new i guess who wouldnt

CRich[814]
02-13-2007, 11:39 AM
04 kxf's were the most unreliable 250f made. all year crf's didnt have huge problems and you can find them for around $3000.

the cool things about yz250f is that they were made in 2001. and they have had zero big problems since. the only problem was in 01 the cam made it hard to start so you either put a 2003 cam in it ($130) or you just kick it like a man. you can find really really really nice 2001-2003 yz250f's for 2300. if i were you, id only get a yzf or a crf. old kawa are junk.

mikeB
02-13-2007, 12:15 PM
Thanks.. would you get any specific year for the YZ or CRF? Or are they both really good bikes?

CAn i find them cheap?

If your looking to buy a brand new bike get the kxf but used go with the yzf. The new kxf's are awesome. But u cant go wrong with both.

CRich[814]
02-13-2007, 12:29 PM
any year yz is awesome. motor is stong in all, the '03 and up have a better suspension. it all depends on how much you want to spend.

low to medium $2's you can get a '01-'03 yzf in good shape.
high 2's to low 3's you can get '04-'05 yz or crf.
around 4g you can get a '06 model used.

i would stay with a Yz250f i have one now its a 2004 its sweet all you have to do is keep up on the oil and air filter and it will last you forever.... YzF valves are suppose to last up to 400 hours or more

crf 05 and up theres no problems with the 04 but the 05s have a lil bit better of a motor...

yz 04 and up... before that they were still working the bugs outta the motors and i don't rust them...

kxf 06 and up... the others are horrible..

rmz 2007 and up...

idk. ive never had experience, but i was almost about to buy an 2002 and everyone loved them even to their 2006's. the only thing they said is the suspension is better in newer ones.

id personally get a crf. my riding buddy has a 2006 and it hauls *** for a 125cc class bike. its just so insanely torquey.

i had 3 friends with them and they are heavy and hard to start... not to mention we always seemed to be rebuilding the motors... they are a great bike just not as good as the new ones...

personally i love my CRF! i've rode every other bike out there and the CRF has been the most comfortable and the most reliable...

i hate that i have to sell it but i gotta...

i know the crf valves suck on the older ones..

2003-2005 yzf are awesome,
2006 Yamaha has a recall on the valves
2007 should be the best bike

im not trying to take a sale away from you tommy... but the crf suck from my experience

But what ever bike you decide to get... they are all pretty much the same..

go to thumpertalk.com and see what they say..

my best friend has a crf and this other kid from my school has a yz and neither have had any problems. just simple stuff.

mikeB
02-13-2007, 02:41 PM
So basically the CRF new bikes are hte best but the YZs are good al around?

CRich[814]
02-13-2007, 02:42 PM
id personally rather have a yzf. but there both great bikes. stay away from the old kxf's though and you'll be fine.

Tommy 17
02-13-2007, 02:48 PM
all CRFs are good with the exception of the very 1st 04s that were out... most were fixed thou...

i have no problem thor with u sayin the valves suck... some people say they have valve problems outta the honda... but for me outta the 20 + that i know of in my area that i use to ride with i knew of 1! that had the problems... the kid never changed the oil and never adjusted them... but of course thats gonna happen... if u take care of any of the bike with the expection of the 04 to 06 rmz and 04 to 05 kxf your gonna have a good realiabe bike...

my best friend at college is HARD ON A BIKE he goes to lorrettta lynns every year and races A class... he owns 6 crf250s and 6 crf450s of every year from 04 to 07 now (mod and stock race bikes and practice bikes) and even the built bikes that have ungodly amounts of money into the motor are still holding together fine...

the reason i say the kxf and rmz are junk is because they are poorly designed... they slapped a bike together just to have somethin on the market... i mean come on to change the oil u have to drain the anti freeze... i guess i look at things from an engineering prospective thou...

I'm also in persute of buying a dirt bike. I am leaning towards a yz250f. But, i heard that u should buy an 06' or newer b/c thats when they came out with the aluminum frame. I have heard the older bikes have horrible handling. Aols most people raise the forks even on the newer ones for better handling...

>>anymore feed back from an owner or riders prospectives on what year to buy of the Yamaha's..?

mikeB
02-13-2007, 03:06 PM
Tommy17.. So pretty much the CRF250R is the #1 bike in its class? And looking at an enginering perspective veiw the CRF250R does look like the better bike.

Tommy 17
02-13-2007, 06:56 PM
05 and older... crf250...

06 and newer... crf250 yzf250 and kxf250 are about the same... what ever u get the best deal on to be honest!

stay away from anything RMZ unless its a brand new 07 and i still haven't heard much good about them...

mikeB
02-14-2007, 06:04 AM

1 more thing.. i had a question on.

Do you think that a 04-07 CRF250R stock, flat out smoke a 406ex? Drag and on the track?

Also.. one of my friends told me the newer CRFs have a wierd engine gasket that goes easily.. is this TRUE?

Yes, I thought the bike was top heavy.

We bought another TRX450R. No more bikes.

hah it would destroy a 400 (equal riders) but a 450r or yfz and a crf are about the same.

always wear boots. first mod should be radiator guards/supports. your going to dump the bike and the radiators are going to bend, this prevents that. and buy an extra air filter (i run UNI, twin air are also great), but alot of extra oil and oil filters. and spark plugs for crf's are like $25 so you might want to grab one of those. im sure tommy has a few recomendations.

Im not raelly sure if honda thought of this but dont you think that honda should come out with there brand of exhuast? Dont you think they should make a dual exhaust for the older CRF250Rs?

I think it would be the best idea

Also what do you guys think about the White Bros E2 Mx exhaust, and teh Mx4 exhuast by White Bros.

CRich[814]
02-14-2007, 10:20 AM
i dont have an opinion on the dual exhaust. i think its kind of lame but it make the mufflers super small so its cool. exhausts for the '06-'07 are $1,000 for the mostpart.

I had an '04 it was a great bike but had some valve issues and yes I took care of the bike. I've also had a '04 kx250f and a 2004 rmz250. They are to nice bikes and the crf and kxf seemed to both get about 50-60 hours before it needed a valve train. Besides the valve train issue on my crf hat bike was bullet proof and I loved it !

02-14-2007, 02:06 PM
Nice bike man! What you got on it?

rmz250
02-14-2007, 02:26 PM

mikeB
02-15-2007, 05:45 PM
Me and my friend were chattin online and he brought up the subject of gettin a 125.

he says teh 250s are more for the mx track, and i say pretty much all bikes, YZ RMZ, KX, and CR/CRF are all ment for teh track, 125 or 250.

I was just curious about witch bike would be better for trail riding.. I mean im not gonna be racin a 250 or 125, mostly trails with decent size jumps.

Dont get me wrong. theres nothin wrong with a 125 that hauls *** but im undecided now. i still would like a CRF250 and all but what do you guys think? Plus i dont want to go through the trouble of mixin gas all the time. And would a 125 be a good trail bike or the 250s? And i kno i can find a decent 125 real cheap. Also my rents get fed up with the noise, and i thought 4 stroke would be the way to go!

crf250 (2006) is way louder than any 125 ive heard. 125's are awesome. there light, fun, pretty easy to maintain, and there quick.
