I have a 350x engine (bought as a crate engine a few years back), number TE08E-5109510 on the left center case.

Can anybody tell what year this motor is? Did Honda make any changes to the 350x engine while it was in production? Was it just made in '85 and '86 or were there other years?

I am looking to part the motor out and want to make sure I have my facts straight first.

The big vent tube bends straight back, then bends to the right. .. I'm still not clear. What parts do you want?

I'm actually looking to part a whole quad that my brother and I built in 2004. 350x engine in a 250x frame...

When initially installing the engine, it kind of slipped and fell a few inches in the frame and put a tiny hairline crack in the left center case, right next to the lower rear motor mount. . . .. . we had tried JB welding it, but it always seemed to weep oil. .. After tearing the quad down, I thought I could really get at it and get a good fix on the motor. .. ended up with a bic pen sized hole in the case. .. . . I don't figure anybody will pay anything for a low hour crate motor with a hole in the case, so I was going to tear it down and sell the pieces. ..

It seriously has less than 100 hours on the motor, is completely stock and it ran like a champ.

sounds like some one twisted the vent

sounds like a 85

another way to tell is 85 has the clutch cable running under the header

86 has it coming from the left side to a mount on the center case then to the pivot arm

This is some info I found on-line.

85 Frame number: JH3TE0801FM000001~ Engine number: TE08E-5000001~
86 Frame number: JH3TE0806GM100001~ Engine number: TE08E-5100001~

Vent tube behind head on 85 bend to left, Clutch lever pulls foward.

Vent tube on 86 straight up, Clutch lever pulls across motor.

See pictures.

Everyone, thanks for the help so far.

okay. .. by vent tube, are you guys talking about the copper bobbin that comes out of the engine. (I thought you were talking about the rubber hose attatched to it). .. the copper bobbin goes straight up on my engine just as shown in the pictures of the '86.

Also, judging from my engine number, I am pretty confident that the engine in an '86.

Are there any parts on the two different years of the trike that are not interchangeable?

Please PM me if you are interested in any of the parts, otherwise, I will be listing them on Ebay within the next month or so.

If you order any major engine components such as piston kits, timing chain, clutches, cylinder, crank, gears etc they are the same. There is just subtle differences, nothing major.Clutch cable is different though as they are clamped to the motor at different spots.;)
