grease it on a regular basis, look in the FAQ section and there is a link on how to actually make the stock bolt a greasable one. i use bel ray waterproof grease adn grease mine about every 6 months with no problems yet(knock on wood.) also you could use copper anti-seize to keep the bolt free.

watch the power washer, don't point the high pressure at it all the time, helps push out grease
if you don't want to take it apart and grease it all the time,
you can take it out, and drill a few VERY small holes where the bearings are, close up one end however you wish, and put a grease zerk on the other.
I've seen a few guys do this, I haven't done it myself

I've also seen guys have stainless steel swing arm bolts machined, that is suppose to help also.

You can just buy a stainless swingarm bolt and not worry about it. Mine in my 450 is seized right now, and seizing is the least of my problems. I did manage to break it free with a lot of persuasion but it still will not come out because it is bent.

I take mine out every few months, seams to work for me. I don't have a a 400ex, but 250r's have the same problem.

Air hammer, air impact, heat and a huge hammer do nothing....:o

I just went through this problem myself like 3 weeks ago. I used a sledge at one point I was so mad cause I couldn't get it to budge more than an 1/8 of an inch. Come to find out it wasn't just bent but rusted too if you can believe it. I cut the bolt head and used a punch so I could work it back and forth (I already knew the bolt was trash), and had to cut it in sections to get it all out. Good Luck!

I need some info guys. I want to take out my swingarm bolt to clean and grease soon. So I guess I just jack up the quad a little and unlossen the bolt. Will the swingarm stay where it's at? Is it a pain getting it lined back up. Please help

It might but i'm 100% sure you can put a block to hold up the swinger if needed then it should work

set your frame on a jack or similiar lift item. remove the bolt, clean, grease and reinstall. the shock and linkage will hold everything pretty much right where it is so reinstallation is not hard.

infact, i had planned on taking pics a few weeks ago when i did one of ours, but the job was over before they brought me a camera.

PUT A RACHET EXTENSION IN THE HOLE BEFORE YOU PULL THE BOLT ALL THE WAY OUT :D

I usually stick a punch or another swingarm bolt/worn down front atc axle bolt(its the same size) into the swingarm to hold it in place. I replace the swingarm bolt after anti-siezed, I gently tap it to push out the one I put in to hold the swingarm. At the same time as greasing it, I run a 14mm 1.5 die on it also and 14mm 1.5 tap on the nut.
