I was wondering if there was any difference between the 88 fenders and the 89 fenders through service honda. The part numbers are different but the fender itself looks the same. I need to order them but wasnt sure which one. Mine is a 86...

Thanks..

the color is what is different for the rear and front on 88 and 89, 86/87 and 89 were white, 88 were red. I know 86/87 and 89 fenders are different, if its just a different part number(like most 88/89's are, even though exactly the same as 86/87), thats a very high possiblilty. I know the front 86/87 fenders are different than 89, a slot compared to a second screw to hold on the hood. I never compared a 89 rear to a 86/87 rear. 86-89 all can use each others fenders.

All of the fenders will interchange with no mods at all. The only difference on the 88-89 fronts is extra slots for the newer style hood, but all the 86-87 parts (hood, air scoop) will bolt right on. The 88-89 rears are set up to take both the 86-87 seat and brackets, and the 88-89 parts. Actual 86-87 white part numbers now supersede over to the 89 parts. The 86-87 specific have been discontinued for this reason.

Unless you are running an 88/89 hood, I'd order the 86 fenders if they are still available and not just mushed together with all white fenders like Rich said. It just fits better and the seat fits better on the rears because the 89 rears have an extra notch for the rubber pieces (kinda hard to explain without pics) I've seen that they are cheaper too.

Not all the hoods interchange perfectly - when you put an 88 hood on the 86 fenders (which I have) you have to cut the slot in and mine ended up cracking because of it. Also the seat doesn't line up properly, there is a gap. But you are thinking of doing the opposite so I'm not sure how that would fit.

The last set I ordered was for an '86 and it came through '89 part numbers, the 86-87 is long gone, so there shouldn't be any problem. I've never had any issues with gaps or improper fit though.

I am buying new red fenders to go to the all red stock look. I will be buying all of the 88 stuff it looks like. If my front fenders look good color wise they are almost new and I will run those for a bit. They are the type that have 3 holes on each side for the hood. I think that means they are older right????
