what is this plug what is it for and can i get a better replace for it

this plug poped out of the whole when i tried to start it up and spit oil out i dont kno what its for mabe something with the compresion and i was wondering if yamaha or someone eles made a better replace for it

the plug is located where the valves are and its black and on the right side of the engine

That happened to mine as well. I beleive it's called a compression plug so i've heard. I had to hammer a penny in mine to finish the last moto. I got another one and put a washer around the bolt next to it to hold it in better. A lot of the guys riding YFZ's have done that to help prevent it in Dist. 34.

its called a decompression plug. you will want to purchase a metal one. try a site sponsor, im sure one of them will have it.!

decompression plug, was a problem on the 04's buy a metal one and you wont have any more problems out of it

you can pick up the decompression plug for 20 bucks. Most likely C&D has them but if not try East Coast ATV, K&K ATV, Motosport. Definetly get one!

Yes the first picture is what you need. Not sure about picture #2 (hot start). Below is the one I pulled from K&K ATV's site. They have them for 10 bucks.

The hotstart cable connects to the carb.

The hole in the head is from the yz bikes, at some point they had a manual decompression device on the head instead of the auto decompressor on the exhaust cam that the yfz has now.
