I took my dads little ole 1995 780cc tripple out to the lake today. He took it for a rip and blew a belt. We put a diffrent one on and I took it for cupple hot laps up the 1/8th mile.

Holy $#@! that thing is fast. my dad said when he put it away about 2 years ago it went 0-100 mph in under 5 secconds, and has just under 200hp:eek: .

I dono how he kept me off this thing for this long. I took 3 rips on it and bee lined to the dealer to get some more c12 race gas for tomorow. Hopefully I get quite a few runs in before that other belt blows out, its the last one that i have laying around....

Im going to try to rig my digital camera up to the dash pointed at the spedometer ( not that it is that accurate).

Yeh, you buy a new one it'll hit 120 easy, prolly even 140.

My brother 'n law's got to and they grab traction.

I' pulled a nice drift around a 100' sweeping 90 degree on a road, talk about AWSOME!

Out of the box stock you could get one to read 120ish on the speedo, not much more..

Ahhhh.... your dad has a 95' Polaris ULTRA 780. It must have some good mods done to it cuz they aren't even close to 200hp stock or piped. I love the way the triple cylinders sound though!!
I'm driving a beater 1997 Polaris XCR600 Triple and that goes pretty good.

Another thing to remember when looking at a speedo is that the track spins a lot more than you think unless it's laced with studs and hooking up.

polaris:grr: no way man. this is a ski doo mach z, good guess tho...

It has been geared doun to race in the 1/8th, so it doesent go much over 100mph. Heck, it doesent go much over 660ft before you have to let it cool off.

Im heading doun to the lake for the day soon. I will get some vids.

Im willing to bet that its either in KM/H or that the speedo needs to be recalibrated...

haha i love it when people finally ride a decent sized updated 2 stroke motor....funny what those "outdated" things can do huh?? :D my F7 hits about 125-128, stock....if they would just make an updated 2 stroke quad....no offence to you 4 stroke riders

02-11-2007, 07:50 AM
oh and if you ever get the chance, ride artic cats Thundercat 1000 triple 2 stroke, they stopped making them around 2002...those had 168 HP...stock...and also take a look at the new ski doo 1000 2 stroke...some serious sleds out there

02-11-2007, 08:29 AM
I rode my first four stroke sled yesterday, and if I had enough coin, I would definitely get one of those. So much nicer. They still have that two stroke style pull, except its through the entire powerband, it just keeps pulling and pulling.

As far as i'm conserned Mach Z's are the only sleds that do 135mph stock no other sled except maybe a 800 storm could touch it but it would blow a belt before reaching that speed. My MXZ 500 has a speedo that reads a 130mph but I can only get it up to 100mph or so , never had it on the lake yet.

02-11-2007, 10:53 AM
Just because the speedo says those numbers dose not mean it will do that.

140 mph lmao haha. I think you could hit 130 on roads, not in snow though, lakes you can hit the higher speeds.

If you think quads are fast, try a sled on the trails, 10 times faster through everything. They are alot funner then quads to imo. Its the best to hit drifts.

Scott-300ex
02-11-2007, 11:04 AM
Yeh I don't go by speedometers cuz hell, my 5.0 speedo goes up to 85, but I've had that thing over 130.

People look in and say oh, it only goes 85, I'm like, "You idiots." LoL

But I know from talk and past expierience getting a sled new and havin it hit 120 will not be a hard task.

02-11-2007, 11:06 AM
if it was between my F7 or banshee, i would take the F7 in a heartbeat, not only are they faster and funner, but when you go up north, NO ONE gives you a hard time...last time i was up there, there was a group of us all ripping through a few hundred acres of fields, about 8 or 10 sleds, all 700s, and 800s, maybe a couple 900s all doing 90-110 mph....talk about fun stuff :D

and to the 4 stroke sleds, i would never have the desire to own one after seeing this guy pulling and puling and pulling on this 4 stroke sled while my high HP 700 started in 1 pull and left a few thousand dollars in my pocket...why switch over? i dont understand

according to snowgoer, the new mach-z is the only production sled to ever hit 120 mph out of the box on a radar gun. the mach Z out of the box went 122 on radar (when they were introduced).

lakes vs roads, neither make a better surface, its all about the condition of the surface, ice with like 1/8" of snow is the best surface, dont matter if its an icy road or a lake.

to my knowledge the speed record for a sled was set by a woman (i think she was from NY but i could be wrong about it), i think she set it at 165-168mph on a full worked cat

The world speed record on a sled is set by Chris Hanson from Minnesota with the speed of 192.2mph on a Anderson Chassis with a NOS enhanced Union Bay motor, set in early March. His previous record was 172.2mph on March 13 of 2004.

an f7 doesent do over 110 stock. they are very fast 700cc sled.

I ran it today. I forgot the camera at home , but I raced a ski doo 1000 with a speed track, picks ( not studs),clutching, and he had some motor work done on it. in the 1/8th it was close but his was a hair faster than my mach z 780. I put a new belt on later that day and it pulled harder but the guy with the 1000 wasent around.

I raced my buddie on his mxz600 and it was a joke, he took off about 7 sled lengths ahead of me and I still blew by him befor the 1/8th mile mark.

Then I raced an f7 and blew the doors of him also.

by the end of the day no one wanted to race:macho

I have an 88 yamaha 570 exciter and I had it up 100 mph the other day out on a snow covered dirt road. With some work to the motor and a custom made exhaust I think I could squeeze a little more out of it. I ran the runners off of it and it was a ride trying to control it but I did. new runners installed and going to the lake this weekend to see how it does there.:p

I saw Chris Hanson run his "Modzilla" sled for his record breaking 192.2 MPH run . He did it at an event about an hour away from where I live , and it was NUTS !!!!!!

As far as best conditions to run a sled for top speed , if you have studs , there's no better condition that glare ice . It's nice to have a little bit of snow to lube the sliders , but bare ice will give you the most accurate speed run .

Also regarding the F7 not being able to hit 110 MPH stock , I don't know where you got your information , but a BONE STOCK F7 out of the crate with proper break in time , will run 110MPH on the gun very easily . Most stock F7s will hit 113-114 MPH .... add a bit of clutching and fine tuning and you'll run 120s all day long .

I have a few buddies that own some quick sleds ... ones a Mach 1000 that's piped and studded , he runs 125-127 MPH all day long . Another has a worked Ski-Doo 800 Rev chassis ... he hangs around 130mph throughout the day .

02-12-2007, 06:57 AM
i guess my F7 must be special then :D

not sure on this but i heard the carbed F7s were faster then the EFI ones? someone told me that but i have my doubts...i never rode a EFI F7...

but yeah alot of sleds are pretty fast...alot funner then quads

Well this one I only turned a key and it fired up instantly, plus 30mpg isn't bad either

I just liked the way the power was. I was very impressed and it wasn't even the RX-1, it was only the nytro, which is a 3 cylinder. It pulled very good and was nice and linear.

02-12-2007, 07:21 AM
electric start wouldnt be bad, untill something goes wrong...the guy on his 4 stroke had to use start fluid to get his fired up...he wasnt very happy...my F7 started on 2nd pull.....

then also factor in the weight difference, sleds weigh enough as it is, let alone some huge 4 stroke 4 cylender...i saw they were bragging the new 1100 cc 4 stroke up because it could run with a F6...wow  ...funny stuff

Te nytro I rode is something like a 960 triple. It was very smooth, and on the lake where we were riding I couldn't really tell the weight, but thats probably because we were on the lake... I know they're more money and what not, but I was just way impressed with how quick it actually is. The RX-1s have to be retarded fast. Very smooth and linear power. Its like having that two stroke hit from off idle and and then just keeps pulling and pulling.... It was quite different.

plus who wouldn't like the ability to take it up to 350+ hp....

Ive never ridden a sled. But i was wondering what a snowmobile is like over 100mph? Is it safer than a car at speeds like that?

Scott-300ex
02-12-2007, 01:28 PM
The backend is really light you can pick that up with 1 hand

And last time I went riding I was stopped and hit it and was goin like 45 and had to let off and my @ss end was kickin side to side, I'm like "Oh F**k!" LoL. Do I lean back for traction to get it straight or move forward to get the runners straight in the ground.

But then I got on the road and was carrying like 60-65 and it was smooth.

So its safe if your on smooth snow

But I had my 5.0 up to about 135 the other day and I felt safe so, try it to find out. LoL.

Some sleds are more stable than others its like wheelers. They track pretty good at those speeds though because they are long. Obviously not safer than a car, you have nothing to hold in or down. Just grip it and rip it...

Well the good times have finally come around here to get the sleds out.

We had about 4 inches or so today, roads are SOOO slick and hardly any plows out.

So needless to say all I did after work was play around on the roads.

Shoveled driveways and told my brother 'n law to "Man those sleds want to go out." He said we are prolly goin tomorrow.

So, Yay!

I ride an M7 and it's pretty quick but geared low for the mountain riding I like to do. I have personally seen what a turboed yamaha apex will do and it's an impressive sight watching 450horses hit a chute. If any of you have ever seen the mountain mod mania videos the rider was Cody James of outlaw motorsports. It was kind of random when I saw him we rode past him just as we dropped down into a hill and I thought the sled looked pretty mean and then he came down behind us and I realized who it was.

I got it from reno 911, where they are teaching defensive driving to people who had originally lost their liscences for driving violations. This was their answer if 4 people came to a 4 way stop at the same time... normally driver to the left goes first... well if all 4 get there at the same time...you run it and gun it.
