Just got done my conversion. Took my 06 400ex and removed all wiring, motor etc. i fabbed up the motor mounts using stock trx 450r mounts. I also used the 2004 trx 450 rear shock and full exhaust, wiring, radiator, and oil cooler. It was a ton of work doing it in my half of a 1 car garage but it was an awesome feeling to get a full day of ridding in on it yesterday without a glitch. The motor is bone stock, so i uncorked the exhaust and lid and threw in a 175 main and it WOKE up. While out i had to see what she had for power. Raced my buddy with an 05 660 raptor with full gytr exhaust and no lid,jet kit and beat him by a quad length on the street. I thought that was respectable!

Im curious to see others who did this conversion. The only thing im not liking is i had to cut my plastic for my kick starter to sit flush. :ermm:

By the way,i left all the stock 400ex motor mounts still on the frame incase i ever wanted to go back to that motor into the frame. This was just a budget build. i didnt get anything powder coated because for one,i didnt know if it was going to work! Next year ill strip it all down and make it pretty. If anyone has any questions feel free to ask. I know it doesnt come close to any of the quads on here but its something i wanted to do and im just happy i managed to complete it by myself within a few days. Just goes to show you if you cant afford the big money conversions that companys do you can tackle it your self!

Great job on your quad!!! Do you have any pics that you can post on how you did your intake? Thanks.

Thank you! Right now im using the stock 400ex air box and intake. it works fine, but im sure the intake is a little restrictive. I used an aluminum carbide bur and shaved the inside of the boot so it slips onto the carb easier and STAYS on. Another full day of ridding in 20 degree weather . What a difference,i love it.

heres the intake. Raced a stock yfz today and beat it by a quad length. Im running open air box and no baffle with a 175 main.

You might try a crf kick start lever, it prolly would have worked without cutting the plastic.

Here is the hole that I molded in the plastic.

you cant use a crf set up because it kicks backwards instead of fowards.

Cool to see another one! Mine doesnt push in the corners at all. Quad is amazing for what it is. Wheres your top motor mount? Also where did you put your oil cooler? Cant see them in the pics. :D

Every one's going to think you all are running CRF hybrids now when they see your quads.

How did you guys mount the radiator?

Did you guys have to cut the subframe?

I used a peice of radiator hose..
Its nice because it holds high temps and can be cut to size..
Still dont knwo what to do for exhaust..
