I started riding and racing 2-strokes at 15...10 years ago. I bought my FIRST 4-stroke atv in 2004 and it was a 450R(now belongs to my wife). The last 4-stroke ATV I had was a Warrior 11 years go. I absolutely can not get used to the engine braking. My WR450 isn't as bad. I would let off the gas on a zingers way before jumps to keep from over shooting them. You can't do that on a thumper unless you let off right at the rev limiter and that doesn't work too well. Any suggestions? I'm really thinking of getting another 250R this summer and running it till they are banned if ever.

try tapping your bake brakes on the face of the jump.

Thats what natalie said in his tips and tricks vid but i haven't tried it yet seems like it would send your front end down.

I use the fmf stm controlled engine braking slipper clutch.. you can control how much engine braking there is by changing springs.

I was the same when I went to the four strokes but after I got use to it I wouldnt go back to a two stroke. Lots of track time will solve this. Im like you I raced two stroke bikes when I was 10 up till 16 always rode two strokes and bought my first real race four stroke this past year (now 31 years old). Took me a while to get the transition down on the mx tracks.

Hinson just came out with a slipper clutch system which is suppose to make a big difference in this, almost eliminating the engine brake. Its quite costly, but sounds neat. You can check out a write up about it on ********.com

just need to practice more accelerating to the jump and scrubbin' over the jump-- it is all in body positioning leading up to, over , and landing-- as far as hitting the brakes-- never the front and only the dragging the rear on the face will help you scrubb speed--

The aftermarket makes slipper clutches that will make it act like a 2 stroke engine braking you might want to check it out

Looks like it going to be late this year before I buy anything now. Maybe the slipper clutches will come along a little more by then. Thanks everybody.
