Very nice bike man. That is what I am looking to do to mine once I get the race car finished later this month. At the moment, it's taking all of my money and my attention.

Perhaps a 416 kit. Sending the rear shock to C&D. Gonna keep i basic for a XC bike. Getting a 250R next month to rebuild for a speed fix.

It is AMAZING the difference the Elka make up front! that's teh first set of Aftermarket Shocks I've ever owened and wish I had gotten some sooner. Wil getting a good aftermarket or rebuild on the stock rear give me the same effect. Will it be THAT much of an improvement as the fronts where? If so that bad boy is goig on ASAP!

quader400
02-10-2007, 05:27 PM
yea the rear rebuild is a must. i had a dual rate rebuild on the rear of it when i had it and from stock it was a crazy diffrence. gets rid of the bucking and really keeps the rear wheels on the ground to keep traction. you should deffinatly send it in

Awesome.... Quick question for you. This is the first set of aftermarket shocks I've ever rode. The Elka's are preload and compression adjustabe. What should I look for in tuning these? I other words what would hardening or softing the compresion fix/cause. And besides hight change what would adjust the preload accomplish? They are gret as the are. i messed with the compession a little and I couldn't tell a differance.

quader400
02-10-2007, 06:45 PM
well it all depends on where you ridding, at a track you would want rebound and comp up a little more than say if your ridding woods. it just gives you more adjustability.

The 250r shocks came off a 86 250r. My friend swapped the Elkas from the 400 onto the 250r when he took it MX riding at a track. He put the 250r shocks on the 400 just so it would have something to hold the front end up. That's just how they happened to stay when he sold them lol.

RSWORDS,
Here's a little vid of me and quader400 when he still had his Elkas lol

Ha ha ha... Thats AWSOME! Y'all know the histoy on this motor? Stock? The boy said he had it rebuilt a month before I bought it. Runs REAL strong! I'm loving this bike! Alot faster in the woods then my Raptor. Still have yet to hit the MX track with it... Looks like it will do good though!

Here is a vid of my buddies and me on our private track and at the MX track in Miller's Tavern.

Nice vids man, I like that track layout you got there...wish I had something like that to practice on.

When my buddy had the 400 the motor was all stock. He took care of it, ran full synthetic, kept up on valve adjustments, etc. Just filtered, jetted, and piped. I guess the guy he sold it to rebuilt it...:D Good to know it still running strong for ya, it was a real good quad for my friend and never failed him

quader400
02-11-2007, 05:53 PM

Quick Question. Are stock 250r shocks better than stock 400ex shocks? Looks like the 250r's a dual rate. Im new to this Honda thing!

quader400
02-13-2007, 06:46 PM
no there not better and not dual rate. they are probably set up for a lesser weight than the 400ex, and they are much older.

Thanks.

Next question.... Anyting wrong with the way I have the rezzies mounted? Does it matter if they a laid down or set up straight?

They are a dual rate and they are still not better. Well maybe not a dual rate, but the spring itself is progressive wound... notice its tighter at the top, and more spaced out at the bottom

Nice EX, now get a rear shock on that thing!!! ZPS fronts and stock rears make for a squirrely handling quad!

isn't there a lrd pipe on there too. I could have swore that quad had an LRD. I only say this because i am interested in getting a LRD for my bike and wanted to hear how it sounded.

NacsMXer
02-14-2007, 11:23 AM
Yea it has the old style LRD full system on it (the good one). The new style Pro 4 systems are completely redesigned so I couldn't tell you how they sound in comparison.
