I have a 400 EX stock, the sticker on the frame says 20W50, I was wondering if anyone is using any other oil than the 8 dollar a Qt. "special" oil honda sells? synthetic iswhat im really interested in

I also know that any oil with a friction modifier is bad for the wet clutch.

also this quad is opperated in 110 deg F ( arizona )

Thanks

amsoil 10w-40 its a synthetic oil but still fine for the clutch, theres no friction modifiers in it.

I run mobile 1 fully synthetic 20w-50 motorcycle oil for V-twins and have had no problems with my clutch. for you temp (110) id stick to a 20w-50 it has a higher viscocity and break down temp than the 10w-30. Not that i run much in the winter anymore but i used to switch to 10w-30 went it got cold and in the summer went back to the 20w-50

we run rotella disiel engine oil, best thing ever used makes a significant difference as far as clutch performance ill run it over synthetic anyday of the week plus when you buy it in 55gallon drums as we do its really cheap by the quart if you figure it up.

if you dont believe me you your clutch sqeals alittle under hard use or low rpm starts switch from synthetic to rotella and ill bet youll see a difference. i did this with my 400 and i ran sythetic in my hybrid when it had its rekluse it squeled, switched to rotella no more, much smoother action and there wasnt that low rpm jutter anymore.

If i was you run 20w 50 kendal oil and also lucas heavy dutty oil mix 50-50 will keep your motor cool and less motor wear and better oil pressure all you will need to do is give your motor time to worm up on first start ups.

I second that, iv heard nothing but good things about rotella and i run it and have had no problems. its supposed to be a high detergent oil too so helps keep the inside of ur motor clean. I run the 15W-40

If you like the regular Rotella that much you should try the Rotella T full synthetic 5w40. Full synthetic is the only way for me. I use it in my truck, quad, and my pitbike....it's great having one type of oil around that covers all my needs. It's one of the best oils i've ever used and you can't beat the price :D

Good stuff ^^^ but muy expensivo. I stopped using Mobil 1 when they switched to MX4T primarily because of the price hike.

Yeah... It's like 8-9 bucks at Wal-Mart... But well worth the price I feel. Whats $20 to make sure you have quality in your engine.
