I may be wrong, but that wouldn't be a good investment for just a pipe and filter. A jet kit should be good enough.

I say mess with some gears.

i would say tires if you dont have them... if you do suspension 400ex front ends are relativly cheap now around 200 for everything..

i was thinkin about puting a smaller rear sprocket but idk wether to go with a 36 or 37??
also does anyone know if a 400ex carb gives you a noticable power difference??

also does anyone know if a 400ex carb gives you a noticable power difference?? a smaller rear sprocket or larger front will make it less responsive but faster overall, a smaller front or bigger rear will make make it pull harder but lower the top speed.

I'm pretty sure all you need is a jet kit for what you have. You might want to do some searching though.

Yeah, I would probably just re-jet for only a pipe and filter. When you have the engine for it a 400EX carb will give you better performance when properly jetted. You will get better throttle response.

Check to see if your gearing is still stock if you don't already know for sure. Stock is 13/38. Unless you need to replace the rear because it is worn, I wouldn't bother with it. Just use a 14T front sprocket instead. That is about equal to a 35T in rear with stock up front.

Just my 2 cents:D

With the smaller 20" tires.. you're going to want a 14t front, or a 36t rear to get it back up to stock speed.

Don't waste money on an edelbrock carb.

Stock carb is fine. Once you get more motor work done, a 400ex carb is a great upgrade.

yea i would agree with all above. if your wanting speed/performance its best to go with jetting or sprockets. but if your wanting look, i would go with 400ex front end or extended swingarm.

I would go with a 400ex front end. You will need a shock relocater though...

Chiming in a little late here. Just picked up a 2002 COMPLETELY Stock 300ex for my daughter to race MX in SCAL and Az. The 250r aint exactly AMA legal for a 13yr old.

Couple of questions.....

1) Where is the best place / method to get the 400ex front end. Can one of you all list exactly what is needed? Is there a place to get it it all at once or do we get parts here and there?

2) For 20" tires are you all moving up to a 14tooth in the front? How does that work out in the power world coming out of the gate? Is it too much top end not enough bottom?

Thanks,

1.) ebay, 400ex a-arms + tie rods and spindals. 400ex(z400,450r,yfz450) any 14in - 16.5in shock will work besides the banshee and blaster shocks. a shock relocator and thats it.

2.) if your mx racing go with a 18in tire and a 14/36 gearing. thats what i use on my 300ex and it works great. 18s work much better for mx racing.
