How to compress shock spring?

I tried a c-clamp, it doesnt work too well, it slips off. I need a different kind of c-clamp. What do you guys use to compress shock springs?? Thanx alot

there is a tool made to compress springs. i think the one for car springs would work. around here AutoZone will rent you one for a refundable deposit.
