Well actually ive heard that a 440 kit only, no exhaust no filter no anything only adds 3 hp. Now with an exhaust, cam, filter, jetted, and all that stuff it will def waste a piped 400.

I think it depends a great deal on the compression. Compression can be more important than displacement. A 440 kit without higher compression and without exhaust, cam, etc. may not be much of an improvement.

I am certainly no expert on these matters. But that is my understanding.

Yea man, that really is a bunch of b/s because my 400 just has a stage 2 hotcam, jetted, white bros. pipe and filter and I can keep up with a stock 450R, not the '05-'07 models, but stock 2004 models I can stick with them no problem.

Also like someone said earlier, it does depend a lot on your compression also!! But the point I am trying to make is that it is unbeleiveable what kind of power gains you can get from your 400 if you choose the right cam, pipe, jetting, and filter combo!!

I tear piped and jetted 450's up with my 440 in the bottom and mid range, only thing holding me back from beating them on top end is the rev limiter. Once i get the rev limit higher, I should have no problem. My mods are below, let me tell you it's a beast. And I'm not B/Sing you.

Well, Doug Gust on a wasted 300EX can keep up with me on a tricked out 450R.

You might be able to keep up with a 450r at the start but they have way more top end than a 400ex.

You do realize that the 2004 and 2005s are the exact same bikes, right?
