I want to change my rear tire size to get some more clearance, what would be a good size to go with?? Also what tires are good to run through woods and rocks, some open trails but no mud. Any input would be nice thanx
Oh its a 2005 400ex

I would go with a 20-11-9 set up /razr 2 are the bomb diggity shilznick! That is what I run trail riding in just about all conditions and I can't think of any complaints.

I wouldn't go with 20s. It already has 20s! If you are trail riding and want the ground clearance, step up the rears to 22's (22x11-9) or (22x10-9).
I have 20s on mine and I drag @$$ in lots of spots when I trail ride. Get your quad a good swingarm skid plate too.

Ya you could do 22" bear claws which look real good and will increase the clearance. And trust me with that size you wont here rocks smashing the swing arm any more or get hung up on stuff in trails, but make sure your running a skid plate for extra protection tho.

Maxxis Razr 2's are awesome and also ITP Holeshot HD's. Ya cant go wrong with either one of them. Their both gona cost a pretty penny but in my opinoin their well worth it in the end. Ive had experiences with other brands and they seem to wear a lot worse.

Thanx for the replys, I will prob. go with the 22s. Im not sure what the diffrence is between 10s and 11s??? I have razr 2 on it now thats how I bought it, 20s, I tag lots of rocks on trails and my swingarm skid has serious damage, I will try to find another one. 22s and new skid should make a diffrence. Thanx

22X11-9

22 Wheel Diameter

11 Tire Width

9 Rim Diameter

Install a good quality swingarm skid plate that's 1/4" (.250) thick.

That's a MMF skid plate. That skid plate is only 3/16th thick. Not the best protection you can get but, it has a smaller price tag. Their website is http://www.metalmasterfabrication.com/400_ex.htm

I have a Cobra 1/4" swingarm skid plate. I love it. Provides exceptional protection and looks better than most other aluminum skid plates. Most ATV online store carry them for around $125.00 and I'm certain you can find one on Ebay for a little cheaper.
