Do you need a +1 stem to run a oversized tank on a 450R? I have about a 1inch rise anyway due to running moose oversized clamps for my flex bars, so im wondering if I need a stem to run the tank.

no you do not need a +1 stem to run a big tank....... becuase the seat height stays the same......

I thought the reasoning behind running a larger stem was so the bars clear the top of the tank.

No, longer steering stems are used for better control.

True, but the stock stem will hit the IMS tank. This can be corrected by either buying a new stem or grinding down the stock one.

In stock form the handlebars will hit, but since you have the risers they probably won't.

You will need a longer stem.
