Is it worth the money? Is it for performance or just protection? Best place to buy one?

Yes its well worth it. The UNI filter is more for protection than performance. However, I would would go with the K&N (w/ Outerwear)...I've ran UNI, and I prefer the K&N.

As far as the uni goes, it has better protection and better performance than stock. The K&N has even more performance, yet not the protection of a foam filter.
You can get them almost anywhere, check out the site sponser's (quadshop and marcums)

as far as a foam filter vs the k&n material it all depends on where you ride.
I run a K&N with outerwear
a uni filter dosen't filter as good as stock. a filter can't flow better and protect better. the protection from the filter causes restricton. a btter performing filter flows better due to less restriction. a stock filter the best filter you can run if you care for your motor.

Sounds good in theory but the U.N.I. has more surface area (It is a larger filter that also flows through the end) and therefore more area to trap dirt as well as flow more air.
