I adjusted the valves on my 02 400ex and they now chatter and it doesn't run good in the higher RPM's it cuts out. Is this still my valves did i do it wrong? Intake clearance.004 and exhaust .005

did u check the clearenc on them and made sure u adjusted the intak for the intake and the exhuast for the exhaust?

Yea exhaust is the two close to the exhaust in the front of the cylinder and the intake the two closer to the carb correct?

Yes, that's right. Your valves have too much clearance if chattering. Did you do this with a warm or cold engine?

Did the valves chatter before you adjusted them? All 400 ex's will have some valve train noise. Was the engine on the compression stroke when you set the valves (not the exhaust stroke)? The engine should be cold and on the compression stroke when you set the valves. Rotate the engine forward (counterclock wise) and when you see the intake valves start to close, then look for the "t" mark, line it up and set the clearance.

the engine was cold and on the compression stroke bacause i was able to move both rocker arms. there was a little chattering before and it was dropping and missing in the higher rpm's bad since the valve job it still chatters but doesn't miss as bad so i think i just have to hone my feel for the slight friction on the feeler gauge.

The 440 we had went threw a couple of cam chains and tensioners. But, if this was exactly after the adjustment, than that seems to be the cause. I would re-adjust and see what that gets you.
