` My brother in law just got a 01 400ex, it came with a stock exhaust, kand n and no lid on the air box... It was jetted stock pilot and 160 main..

So i put in a smaller jet, he got some 10w40 ooil and now it wont start... The plug was black as hell. We also put in a new plug.

It is cold as hell here today, do you think that is why it wont start?

I have a 06 400ex and mine wont run either, it starts but dies, his wants to start but hes got nothing... It gets spark and fuel.

Yea thats what im telling him to do now.
We pulled it with his truck it started and runs good now... I figured it was the cold that wasnt letting it start...

Put in a 42 pilot and bring down the main to a 155, a 160 main is too rich for stock exhaust.

I put it all back to stock for now, 38 and 148... And a stock filter.

We got it running and stay running, but i think his valve seals are bad its smokes pretty bad on decel.

Yeah, that's his valve seals, does it burn oil on start up too?

It doesnt so at idle, but once you tap the throttle it does. Seems to do it bad on deceleration..

I would suggest not riding anymore so you don't have to pay for a total rebuild too. Don't bother to start it up, take it to the shop right a way.

As long as the oil level stays good he can ride it. But as soon as he gets the seals im goin to put new ones in..
