Just wanted to let you guys know taht i am most likely going to be trading my R for a yfz450. It kinda upsets me to see the two stroke go, but i think the 450 will be a better ride for me. Anybody else make the switch?
I probaly wont be in this forum much anymore, so bi guys!

wouldn't going from an r to a 400 be kinda a down size.

you must have had a ****ty R. The 250R motor is bullet proof if you have a good setup and maintain properly.

[QUOTE] if you have a good setup and maintain properly.[/QUOTE
you know how much it costs to have a good setup by the time you get all the heavy duty stuff in the motor? when i can go and get a 450 and right out of the box it is faster
yea it was a big POS like alot of them now, too many years of racing and not alot of it been rebuilt correctly, althought outside it looked great, frame started cracking and i had to tear it down and then right after i got done with the topend i took it out a month or two later and the trans went out it, got that fixed then the piston shattered
the ONLY 250r i would own now is an aftermarket framed one or one stock framed with alot of mods for really cheap so i could get an aftermarket frame and switch stuff over
im not trying to start an arguement here but this was my last experience with owning a 250r

HOpe the YFZ isnt the same!
I'm with oldskoolex400 get a 450 they are better.
funny thats what they want everyone to do...ride it for 2 or 3 years, then buy a new $6500 quad...thats the worst part about these 4 strokes...i think once these 4 strokes are 5-8 years old, they blow up, then why bother fixing the 2500-3 grand quad when rebuilding the motor is going to cost 1500ish, plus the tires ar bald, bent rims, plastic janked up, etc...its all a plan, theres more reasons then polution to this 4 stroke revolution...its all about $$$...bottomline is in 20 years you WONT see 2004 YFZs runing like the 1985 1986 250r trikes, the 86-89 250r quads and banshees buzzing around....youll see alot of junk 450s in the near futue...while these short produced 250rs are still running strong

exactly, and if any of these 15 year old kids actually go to college and take some marketing classes, they will learn that companies will do anything to make money. do you think Honda wanted people to ride and race 20 year old quads, of course not, they are not making money selling new ones. all these companies are in bed with each other coming up with how they are going to rape their customers.

You said it, go out and spend the $$ on a new bike, that's what they want you to do. Go run your new 4 stroke and come back when you realized what a mistake you've made by getting rid of your 250R, I bet your new bike will not be around in 20 yrs like the 250Rs.

quite frankly in 20 years i could give a damn if it is still around, i dunno about you but i sure wont be riding then, ill be an old man, even though i want to push my kids to ride, i want to be laid up in flordia relaxing, maybe not you though, but good luck with that

I still like my 250R's. Would not trade it for a 4 poker any day. Not that the power is not there, but i like the 2 stroke feel and how small the quad is. The new 4 strokes seem to be heavy and stiff. You also ride high up and I feel like im going to fall over.

You guys hit that head on when u were talking about marketing, the new 450s are made cheap they are supposed to break, i mean if they didnt break and the companies couldnt sell parts how would they feed their familys?? ?? lol they are pretty good but its all a marketing thing. neone remeber that article in Sport rider(not sure if it was that mag) that had a shoot out between a through the roof textria tech 330r and a lt450r, i mean the first race they r won by 7 in a 200ft drag and then they pulled the baffle out and put a cherrybomb and the lt won by 10 in the same 200ft drag... i mean comeon either its all a huge marketing scam or the R didnt leave first.

Ahem, the TRX250R came detuned by design. For example, the CR for the same year put out I think close to 10 more hp. So... sorry about ruining that theory for you. The poor 450 on the other hand, they can't seem to bump the compression enough. Don't forget its got 200 more cc's as well. Ya, great engine! LOL
By the way, the only people who care about sponsorship are a pro riders. If you're on the sales floor at Honda, bend it over wanna-be.

if your talkin to me its been gone for awhile now, im gonna let the handle the power thing go, oh yea i cant handle the power of a 250r, but i ride a kx500  honda has to be putting out double the hp of the bike
honeslty my 265 out ran 450s, hey are all neck and neck when modded, i ride a 2 stroke for many reasons, like they are lighter, easier to work on, cheaper, i love the sound, more responsive to mods...but everyone has their choice

I had an 89 with, I was told, the same Krank-It MX motor Joe Byrd was using when he rode for Krank-It which happened to be the same time I had the bike. I have never ridden a thumper, INCLUDING my 05 WR450F bike, that would have out motored it in a straight drag. On a BIG MX track, I had a Banshee that would have beat it with a rider who could out-ride it....I could do that. These 450's, to me, are a joke. The guys I knew when I was racing who are still at it are still riding their 250R's with the exception of one who is still racing Pro TT's. The one's from a couple years behind me are riding 450's and paying out the *** to stay competetive. I gave up on my " Pro Career " when they started making the hybrids. I didn't and still don't have that kind of money. Mine isn't worth as much as their's. I liked racing and just hauling *** around the house and the cool liking 2-strokes were what got me interested. I was 5 when the first Quadracers were hitting the riding area's around here. Between them, the Banshee's, and what few 250Rs were around, I was hooked at a young age. I got to start at 16 on a LT500R, then the 250R I was talking about and then my Banshee. I bought a 450R in 2004 and was discusted. If this is the way racing is going, I'll stay to the side and watch. These 16 year-olds that don't know better can spend their money. I'll keep mine.
In closing I WILL say with a smile...My Banshee with a burt clutch STILL smoked EVERY hybrid to the first turn and I had no trouble on the track with them either. They didn't handle any better than the Banshee. A 310 + R wouldn't have to try against ANY of these 450's not matter what they had done. They just don't have it where it counts untill you spend $3500 and it blows in a month. The R and Banshee will KEEP go'n.

jeepers creepers this argument still going on ??? 450's were the best thing ever for the quad scene , its never been so big . and the sound that come from the odd 250r that u see on the track now sounds even sweeter..
its sad to think what quad racing could have been is the 250r was updated each year and then the rest would have had to up their 250 2 strokes as well...now racing is getting way too expensive, im hearing that the new kawi 450 is going to be right there with the suzuki - over 7 thousand dollars, STOCK...when i can buy a PV 330 narrow frame cr500 link for a couple grand less? i just dont understand

Well, aside from people actually liking the pos, a major drive behind them being in the spotlight is major marketing and the subsequent wanna be's. I'm like you, they don't make financial sense, especially since I don't even like single cylinder 4strokes or the 450 anyway.

You're right in general. 2strokers are bummed and amazed at the solution to the epa standards deadlines. So some of us feel the need to push back, even if it's just one wanna be at a time. I've converted 2 4stroke people to being interested in buying a 250r. You just can't match the power to cc ratio, not to mention all the extra parts you don't need!

By the way, I've considered buying a CBR600, but if they made a 2stroke version that was street legal, I probably wouldn't even open the brochure. How many of you remember 2stroke street bikes? The epa shoved those back into closed course competition too. You hardly see them in mainstream racing though. Why? No one can sell you a street legal one anymore!

I think it's funny how you fools think that the big boom in atv racing is such a great thing. Like all things hype it creates marketing and buying buzz. So you think the boom is here for you?? It's here for th$m, you fool. And if it were more underground we'd get to see less interest in money making interests and the sport would be more pure with less wanna-be f*gs running around worrying about their mainstream image and sticker kits. 450's make me want to f*cking puke.

my R has lt 250 shocks up front to lower it for flattrack, eventually its gona get some mx shocks but i dont have the cash at the moment.
you keep showing off ur kx 500 and saying how much hp it has lol i bet u prolly putz it around riding it like a 4stroke nice and easy.

i assume you have never rode a dirtbike then
and i highly doubt you would beat me on a track or straight line, whats that R top out at 75-85? add around 30-35 mph and you will e even with me on a drag
i was racing before you were born on September 17, 1992 it takes time to gain skill, unlike you when i was being brought up i respected my elders, i guess when you were younger, you werent taught this

Your an arrogant dou*che bag! You shouldnt be the one telling someone else you dont know that their quad is a POS. I highly doubt it is a POS if its only 3 years old, you can only beat on the quad so much in 3 years, I cant say anything about yours but in 18 years you can beat a quad pretty bad...

Yea... people can get hurt traveling to the grocery store. Chance of injury and death are the price you pay to live. Too many people are not living because they're too afraid of death and then make it hard for other people to get on with it... I think it sux!
I think it's funny to look back at the big 3wheeler controversy that got Honda in so much hot water and meanwhile no one was trying to sue them for 2 wheeled bikes which are pretty easy to crash! The general public thought 3wheelers "looked" safe and when they ran their feet over they looked for someone to blame. Honda probably shares some blame for marketing it specifically as "safe" but I don't think they deserved the heaping of lawyers jumping on the bandwagon to collect some easy cash. I read an excerpt I found on some law company's web site about the litigation... It was a feeding frenzy sounds like.
I maybe should clarify. I don't have a problem with big racing venues, but it just reminds me of when sponsors didn't have their big hands in it as much and consequently didn't have their newest quads constantly being washed over our brains. It's kind of like the radio. If you tune in, you're basically going to have to listen to what they tell you to.
i think almost every one would rather ride a full blown MX 250r with CR 500 link, PV motor, LT shocks, over a full blown 450....except of course those hard core 4 stroke guys

i have never lost to a polaris- not on my R nor on my YFZ...
on new years i had a buddy with me that had a brand new 06 predator, that came with a white brothers pipe, he had a filter and the same paddle tires as i did... because he is heavier than i am and cant ride for crap, my good buddy who rides great, is about equal weight, and who i race about 100 times every weekend hopped on it- and i completely dusted him... i could just toy with him... so in this case i have 100% assurety that it was not rider differences...
i raced dozens of predators back when my R was stock with a pipe and dusted them... youre a clearly a fool if you beleive that a predator will out run a yfz... like i said- you must be taking stupid pills...

now im not saying that YFZs are better or that Rs are junk or anything else- i absolutely love my R... but regardless of if you like the feel or whatever, it is ignorant not to recognize that the YFZ is a great bike and it is pretty impressive for a stock bike...

even with a 15 front tooth you wont hit a true 85 mph...my banshee had a 16 and i was about 87 mph and thats 1 tooth bigger, running 20 inch tires....you were probally around 80-82, still a long way from a true 85 mph
