I have a 99' 400ex and I am putting on a new DG stage 1 full exhaust system. I am told that jetting my carb is not necessary for that type of exhaust and only fine tuning the carb is required. Can I get some clarification on this?

I've always gone by the rule:

If a slip on, no rejet.
If a full system, must rejet.

there's no sense in buying a pipe if you don't rejet. Jetting may seem alittle hard at first but with all the good people including me on here that know alot about jetting we can help. No matter how dumb the questions are we'll try are best to help, that's the bottom line.

If you think jetting in general is scary and hard try doing it outside at 12:00pm in the dark with nothing but a little flashlight to help.

Hell yeah!!!! I didn't do it even with a flash light, all I had was the street lights!!!! I spent HOURS rejetting on New Years Eve, Fireworks everywhere, really scary. Plus I only have one headlight so I can't see to much while riding in the dark :scary:

About the jetting, post your elevation, average temps etc... I suggest starting with a 158 main and 42 pilot (once the 42 pilot is in no need to change it) that should put you in the general area. Good luck.

250exkid i'm 43 miles north of Green Bay. The town is Suring.

158 main and a 42 pilot sounds right, put the needle in the 4 slot from the top

Also turn the fuel screw out about 2 and 1/2 turns.
