View Full Version : soaked my chain in simple green

I'm still on the original chain from 2002. I dont ride too often so I dont think it needed to be replaced yet. I pulled the entire rear end off to clean it up and soaked the chain in almost fully concentrated simple green for over 24 hours. I scrubbed it with a wire brush and then power washed it. Looks great. My question is, would the simple green harm it in any way?

i don't think simple green will, but power washing it will. you risk tearing the o rings with a pressure washer adn loosing the grease sealed in the chain. but being 4 years old, replacing your chian may not be a bad idea anyway.

well it's soaking in motor oil. how long should i let it soak? 24hrs?

24 hours should be fine, I would always soak it in some sort of oil/lube after pressure washing it, soaking it in a degreaser, or scrubbing it.
