Checking engine oil?

I recently picked up a used 05 400EX. I'm used to checking engine oil in my vehicles and lawn equipment when the engines are cold. According to the service manual for the 400EX, I need to check it after it's been idling for about 5 minutes. Is this the way everyone checks the oil in their 400EX? Kinda strange to me, but I've never had anything with a dry sump system either :p

Yes warm it up for 5 min 10 if its cold then let it sit for 2 to 3 min before you check it.
