I just picked up a Houser crf 450. I was hoping that you guys could help me out with some of that secret info some of you have. Any tips, recommendations, or any info at all would be appreciated.

I also need a good starting point with the jetting. Its an 03 motor, stock carb, 488 kit, stage 2 cam. If someone could give me a good idea of a good starting point Id appreciate it.

From what I've heard the CRF motors need the oil changed very frequently and a very clean filter at all times.

Thanks in advance
Brian

I'll get some pics up sometime soon

yeah, crfs need oil changed alot. that is very true. they only have 3/4 of a quart in the crankcase side, and those things run hot. not sure about the jetting, never had a big bore crf.

also they need the valves checked regularly they are known to tighten up quicker than other motors.

Also, what airboot and airbox are you all using? I've been told the ltr 500 boot will work with the Houser frame.

Mine is a custon design of some intake tube and bent steel tubing. Its 3' tube so there is plenty of airflow. And, I dont run an airbox with a 250r unifilter wrapped with an outerwear.

figair - as for the price, what do you think is a fair price for that bike? It does need a little tlc, but over all its in good shape....

Slinky, yes I still have the "old school" hybrid as well. I have a "new" motor in it. Its a 250x motor that has had the cases machined for a 400ex (440) piston, 8mm stroker crank, port/polish, big valves, 39mm fcr, .................. pretty much everything that you could do to it. Its pretty cool.

sounds like an interesting setup on that motor...i'm still waiting to see what i'm going to do for a frame on my bike. I've got a 400ex to ride right now so i'm not in too big of a hurry for it.

for now i'm holding off on it, i think i'd be better off putting my money into having Ken fix my frame, then i know its done right.
