its not very hard to change ur best bet is to go out and buy a manuel for the quad it will tell u every thing u need too know plus its good to have if u need to tear into anything else on the quad..i have a magnum carrier and it works great but pretty much any carrier that is the double bearing setup works great...

id check every thing over really good and if thats all that is wrong with it is the carrier id buy it but if u can give him cash id hand him 1200-1300$ and see if he will take it just for chits and giggles lol u know, save ya some money and cash talks...

make sure theres no cracks in the frame but mainly look at where the swingarm connects to the frame. Most older 400ex theres a good chance the bolt could be seized up and its a real pain to get out.

dont mean to be a pain but might you have a pic of the area your talkin about, and how am i supposed to know if its seized up like put a wrench on it??

It's the bolt that goes through the engine, frame and swingarm just above/behind the footpegs.

It's probably frozen in there if it's never been removed. It's not a deal breaker and the price seems fair if the quad's in good shape.

Bearing carriers can be had for anywhere from the low to mid $100 to just over $200 for the tapered bearings. To change that out is simple, just takes a little time.

Here's a pic, left side. There's the nut that goes on the bolt.

It's pretty easy, even for the first timer.

You just need to remove the gas tank and you're right there to work on the top of the engine.

2000 400ex
runs great no problems,
fresh oil change(royal purple only every 5 hrs depending on conditions)and filter(duh),
new plug, new complete seat and black HONDA cover(old one too(red),no tears just stained),new grips,
new chain, RAD h12 tapered bearing carrier/,new axle nut,new rear bearings, 90% tread on Dunlops, new Moose air filter. I was told from the guy I bought it from it has been bored and has aftermarket gaskets and headstuds but cannot confirm this. I did clock it at about 80 mph though. Needs the new carrrier put in, I just dont have time to do it.

thats what it says, what would be the reason for all hte rear end replacments??
