I am a recreational rider and I want more bottom and mid range power. I ride a 2005 Honda 450r. I have a DASA exhaust coming. I am gonna get stage 1 Hot Cam. What piston should I get and what compression? I was told to go with JE. Also how many hours would it take to install the cam and piston and a jet kit. I was told 4 hours at $85 an hour by my local Honda shop. Am I getting ripped?

I would use the 13:1 piston for JE. As for the labor we charge around 4 hours at $50 for that work

I would hold off on the piston for now, as with that compression you will probably need to mix race gas. Put in the cam first and see how you like it. I have an 05 right now with an HMF slip on, UNI without the lid and a stage 1 hotcam. I cant see needing any more power than that unless your racing. The stage 1 adds tons of bottom to the R, it pulls like a tractor!

The R already has a 12:1 stock I doubt that 1 more compression would make it go to race gas. Don't forget its water cooled not air like the 400.
