He grabbed up one of the boys squirell tails and lit right into it:blah: He was getting ready to pounce when I snapped this shot.

We've got three labs at home. 2 out of the same litter and one that i've had since i was a kid.

Our biggest one weights just short of 150 lbs.. He's fat as hell...

Gotta love the labs, they're so smart and make great hunters! Congrats Ken..

Hey pappy , how much do you feed your pup and how many times a day?

Pappy
01-25-2007, 06:38 PM
Id have to ask the wife, I believe its a cup a day for a pup (1 cup split in 2 feedings)

my dod is a fetch-a-holic. He will not stop fetching anything. Any time im outside he runs up to me with anything, stick, rock, ball and keeps droping it at my feet till I throw it. in this pic I was taking pics of my quad and so I took one of him. Go figure, he has a nub of wood in his mouth.

Luckily we have all hardwood floors, a big must when we looked at our house. The wife sweeps a few times a day but these guys are members of our family and we treat them as such. Ive watched my black lab herd my kids away from areas he knows they shouldnt be etc. Thats why we got the newest pup as our yellow lab was killed:( and moose needs some help as he gets older:p

Looks awesome Pappy . We have a purebred chocolate lab also ... he just turned 1 year old on Christmas Day . He's an awesome dog , but can be very mischievious at times . Even with all the toys we've bought him ( LOTS) , he still chewed up 2 brand new comforters , a couple pairs of shoes ( including my BRAND NEW dres shoes) , socks , shirts , etc . His most favorite "toy" that we can give him is an empty plastic water bottle .. go figure!!!

I'm sure you already know , but if you're going to train him as a retrieving dog ( duck hunting , etc) , now is the perfect age to start ... just make sure you don't get him gun shy or else you'll have a VERY hard time to break him . As I'm sure you are aware , be ready to have dog hair all over ... ours is losing hair like crazy right now ... I can pull it off in chunks . :ermm:

If you're interested , maybe ask a vet about getting the dog on a dog food called Medi Cal .... it helps slow down the weight gain so that the dog's bones and joints can develop ... helps reduce the risk of dysplasia which is very common in Labs .

Anyways , congrats on the new addition to the family ... very nice looking dog .

Here's pictures of ours that I'm sure you've already seen.

Around 16 weeks . Chewed the bed in a matter of a day.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a151/Quad18star/P1010005.jpg

Full grown at 1 year old . He's short and isn't very heavy . He only weighs about 70 lbs ... small for a male lab .. but I wouldn't trade him for anything .

Yeah all the hair is starting to drive me nuts also . I can honestly sweep 3 times a day and brush him , yet he still loses so much hair it's disgusting . But he's my buddy and I take him with me wherever I go , even if it's just to the post office which is 2 minutes down the road . He's attatched to my hip that's for sure ... hell he even lays beside me and rests his head on my pillow at night .

If I had the room , I'd get myself another chocolate lab ... but the house is too small as it is and I don't have a big enough yard or vehicle to haul 2 dogs around . Once I have a house with a LOT of yard , there'll be another lab running around !!!!

Mine does the same thing . I swear at times he's human just by the way he acts and does things .

I don't know about the rest of you guys , but my chocolate lab is the most affectionate dog I've ever owned . I'll be laying on the couch or in bed and he'll just jump up and cuddle up beside me , or he'll lick my face until I push him away .

Man I wish I had some time to come with you:( Next year!!!!

This lil pup is fantastic, smart as a whip. The first night was rough as he had some seperation issues but nothing real bad. Moose was a bit miffed at first but by today started playing with him alot. Moose walks to the door and sits if he needs outside and low and behold Trooper did it twice on his own tonight!!

He is taking after Moose for sure dont you think:p Moose is on a diet but has arthritis in his knees and we are having trouble slimming him down. I am hoping the pup will help keep him active
