I was just down at my local Honda shop about to get an HRC kit and they suggest I get a JE piston for additional power.. What do you think? They told me the labor for the install would be @4 hours at $85 per hour. Does this sound right? They want $300 for the HRC kit and $200 for the JE Piston. I think Im better of getting the parts online.

4 hours to install a piston?
They are out of there mind.
NO NO NO NO NO!
And $200 for a JE piston is highway robbery...1 word = eBay.
Something to keep in mind...anything over a 12.5:1 CR will require high octane fuel for detonation resistance...
And why pay $300 for an HRC Kit?
Buy an HRC Needle, 185 main jet, and Hot Cams Stage 2....then just pop off your airbox lid. You have an HRC kit for $175 :).

I would upgrade the piston on an 04/05. There's lots of choices--anything is better than the stocker (performance-wise).
What JE piston where they recommending (compression ratio)? A CP 12.0:1 might be a nice choice. There's a semi-custom 12.25:1 piston made by CP for Venom sold through KBR (sheesh!) that is popular. The short take seems to be it offers 13.0:1 power while providing 12.0:1 deto resistence. Sounds good to me.
But even a Wiseco 11.5:1 would be full point above your stock piston.

Ok, I dont know anything about motors, so give me some pointers on what I should get. I dont race, I just want more bottom and mid range power.
